It’s not easy following a legend.
Most of the WAR stuff I do now is geared to baseball sims. One of the issues I’ve been working on the last couple of years is the proper use of positional adjustments. From a practical standpoint, introducing a batting adjustment in runs prior to a conversion to wins actually makes it harder to compare players across positions during draft prep. Uggla is known for his hugs. Freddie Freeman, with the Braves, is perhaps more well-known for his many on-field hugs, but Uggla said he taught that to Freeman. Fans have held up signs at games such as “I Want a Huggla from Uggla” at games. His nickname is, sometimes, Huggla.

[Mayor] Coderre says Montreal is a real baseball town and that six or seven teams have expressed an interest in playing games in the city next year.
A GM has to balance short-term desires and long-term needs. Cherington is a patient sort who leans towards long-term part of the spectrum. Despite having three world championships in the last 12 years, the typical Red Sox fan, like most fans, falls firmly on the short-term desire side of the spectrum. When you add in a rabid, impatient press, that’s not a good mix.
