What’s Buster Posey’s best trait as a catcher? Here’s what his pitchers had to say - Giants Extra

He’s dreamy!

To fully appreciate Posey’s talent, his pitchers say, you need to look into his eyes.

Gleeman: Royals may bench Norichika Aoki for Game 3

Aoki-dokey.

Aoki’s defense has been an issue throughout the postseason, with Yost frequently taking him out late in games in favor of Jarrod Dyson while shifting Lorenzo Cain from center field to right field.

So instead of doing that again Yost may just decide to start Dyson and use Aoki off the bench as a pinch-hitter. Aoki is a better hitter than Dyson, but he’s hardly an impact bat and an extra five or six innings of better defense and baserunning could be worth the change.

AJC: Hart says ‘yes’ to Braves, will head baseball operations

Hart, 66, was named Thursday to the newly created position of president of baseball operations for the Braves, signing a three-year contract that runs through the 2017 season, which would be the Braves’ first season in their new ballpark just under construction in Cobb County.

The team will still presumably replace fired general manager Frank Wren with another person who’ll report to Hart. Current assistant general manager John Coppolella, 36, is believed to be a frontrunner for that ...

NY Times: The Strike-Zone Revolution

In his paper, Mills attributes between 25 percent and 40 percent of the scoring decline stems from the larger strike zone, and he said that he considered that estimate conservative.  The zone may have begun growing about a decade ago, when Major League Baseball began using video to evaluate umpires’ calls behind home plate. But the 2009-10 off-season, when the league put a more comprehensive system into place, seems to have been a turning point. Umpires now receive a report after each game ...

I hope this doesn’t get me fired. | FOX Sports

A game can go badly pretty quickly. Last night I was watching the game. With the score tied 2-2 the game channel went out on my television.(There was a power outage at the local affiliate.) By the time the picture came back on, the score was 7-2.

We don’t know what will happen in game 3. The Giants could jump out to a 10-run lead in the first. You close out the wins in World Series games as best you can. Herrera just had six days rest. He has another day off today. Using your three best ...

When Coveleskie reached the bench, Billy demanded:

“Why didn’t you catch that fellow on first base?”

“What fellow on first?” inquired Covy.

“That guy that stole second.”

Martino: Michael Cuddyer is a perfect free agent fit for NY Mets, who like him

The Mets have a Cuddyer need for an outfield bat:

So where do they find a bat? Well, here’s an idea, one that that’s already been floated in the blogosphere, and turns out to be a concrete possibility: Free agent Michael Cuddyer, the exact sort of piece that fits the offense the Mets hope to construct.

Here’s what we mean by that: While Sandy Alderson has long checked in on the Giancarlo Stantons and Carlos Gonzalezes of the world, he and his staff consider it more likely that the Mets ...

In case you missed it, Wheaties made a commemorative box with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on it. For the General Mills cereal, known as the “breakfast of champions,” a one-shot box with Albright is part of an effort to redefine what kind of champions the brand will be touting.

Royals are not the future of baseball | FOX Sports

The Kansas City Royals might very well win the World Series. That would certainly be wonderful for them, but of course, it will come at a price for the rest of us. There are already pieces about how everyone should be like the Royals, and a World Series win would mean that we’€™d all be treated to another 50 or so of those pieces. There are many commendable things about how the Royals were built and how they play ball, but let’€™s take a look at the evidence and ask the question: Are the ...

Pace-Of-Play Initiatives Get Mixed Reviews In AFL - BaseballAmerica.com

Of course, if these rules end up in place, routines will change.

“It’s tough,” Seager said. “You almost feel rushed. It’s not your normal (routine) where you can take your time, get your rhythm. It’s kind of on somebody else’s rhythm. It was a little rushed … getting on and off the field, getting your stuff done in the dugout and in the box mainly because you only have 20 seconds between pitches. You swing and then get right back in—it’s a little weird.”
