Heyman: Ender Inciarte Agrees To 5-year Extension With Braves

Sources report to FanRag Sports that Ender Inciarte has been inked to a five-year extension worth just over $30 million. The deal will take the 26-year-old outfielder through all four arbitration years as a super-two player, plus one year of free agency.

Free agent Edwin Encarnacion reportedly signs with Indians | BLUE JAYS | Blue Ja

The Blue Jays made the best offer. It was rejected. I get that fans will miss Encarnacion. Any complaints about the front office decision-making, however, seems misguided.

Will the Texas Rangers make another Christmastime deal? | The Star-Telegram

“We’ve stayed in touch on a number of different fronts, but for the most part, it’s being patient,” Daniels said. “We need to add depth in certain areas. Between trades and free agents, there’s still a lot of opportunities out there for us and others.

“We’re just trying to talk through a bunch of different scenarios and trying to stay patient with things.”

Pirates sign Ivan Nova to 3-year deal | MLB.com

Standing in front of his locker at PNC Park on Sept. 29, Ivan Nova made his preference clear. He did not want to leave the Pirates’ clubhouse, he said, and he would do whatever he could to return in 2017.

Nova stayed true to his word. The Pirates addressed their biggest offseason need on Thursday, agreeing to a three-year deal with the veteran right-hander. The agreement, confirmed by an industry source, is pending a physical. The contract will pay Nova $26 million, according to reports by ...

“Every year since I have been playing ball in the East, I have spent my winters in California. I generally land there in November, and lead the simple life for about three months. But I have always been a mystery to the nice old lady who boards me.

“Last winter she was entertaining a caller who made some inquiries about me.

On Players’ and Coaches’ Skepticism of Defensive Metrics

When Statcast fixes the missing plays problem, DRS and UZR will go the way of RF and Fielding Pct. Nobody will use them. Regardless, most often it’s a misunderstanding of what the numbers mean and using them improperly that is an actual problem.

“I’ve seen the defensive statistics that say that Hechy (Adeiny Hechavarria) is not a good shortstop, and that’s just stupid,” says Marlins outfielder Christian Yelich. “You can’t say that and have any sort of credibility at the same time. I ...

A’s outlook: Options at second base ‘a concern’ for 2017 season | CSN Bay Area

Yeah, not having a short-term and long-term answer is a real problem.

Shortstop Franklin Barreto, Oakland’s top overall prospect, has logged some time on the right side of the bag in the minors and most recently in the Arizona Fall League. The 20-year-old Barreto figures to begin this season with Triple-A Nashville but will likely make his big league debut sometime in 2017.

Unlike center field — where the A’s lack both a short and long-term answer — team officials at least like their ...

Silverman: Red Sox trade of Buchholz nothing more than a salary dump | Boston Herald

$13 million is way too much to pay for rotation depth.

Tobias doesn’t make the Sox better now.

And now the Red Sox’ rotation depth is just two, rather than three, tweaked obliques from having to turn to Roenis Elias, Henry Owens or Brian Johnson as a spot-starting savior. The old adage that you can never have enough starting pitching is one that not-new-anymore president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has not sworn allegiance to.

Top 2000 Prospects for 2015

We had a thread about this guy’s weird list of 2000 prospects in 2010, then forgot about it. He’s still at it! But it seems that his most recent list was in March 2015. It remains unclear what his definition of “prospect” is. It may be all a strange joke (check out who the last name on the list is).

The 2015 list does not have as many bizarre names as the 2010 list. (Exceptions: Gage Hinsz, Tito Polo, Jiandido Tromp)
Today’s player is more likely to be named after a hunky soap opera ...

Is this the name of a Star Wars character or a professional baseball player?

Stay on target, Eric Wedge!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is, like its subtitle says, the latest movie from the Star Wars franchise. It is, according to A’s reliever and movie critic Sean Doolittle, a worthy entry in the canon. It also gives us great character names like Jyn Erso and Baze Malbus to go alongside Lando Calrissian and Boba Fett.

You know what other rich, sprawling universe has great names? Professional baseball.

Below are 10 names. The question is simple: Does the name belong to ...

How Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria continues to outfox us all

Best regards.

Meanwhile, a clause in the contract struck between the Marlins and local government in 2009 would have forced the Marlins to share a massive 70 percent of the proceeds from a franchise sale the next year; that figure dropped all the way to 5 percent by 2014, and would amount to a fraction of that now, according to last week’s report by the Miami Herald. In essence, Loria engineered a deal that handcuffed Miami into supporting him at all costs for five years, followed by him being ...

Report: Phillies Acquire Pitcher Clay Buchholz From Red Sox

The Phillies have reportedly acquired pitcher Clay Buchholz from the Boston Red Sox, according to multiple reports. The Phillies will send a minor-league Josh Tobias to Boston, according to Jim Salisbury. Buchholz, 32, was 3-6 last season with a 5.86 ERA in just 66.0 innings of work and 10 starts, bouncing back and forth between the starting rotation and bullpen.

Can you match these MLB stars to their Minor League scouting reports?

“Few middle infielders can match Moncada’s huge offensive ceiling, which earns him comparisons to Robinson Cano with more speed.”

Yeah, we’re excited.

But do you know what people were saying about your current favorite MLB stars when they were still just top prospects in MiLB? Using MLB Pipeline’s archives, we pulled quotes from the scouting reports of some of MLB’s top young talent.
