Come Tuesday, fans won’t be gaining entry to Yankee Stadium’s Opening Day with print-at-home tickets.
Some fans, however, will get to see the New York Yankees face the Houston Astros from behind home plate on the dime of Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver—under one condition.
The comedian is offering a total of six Legends Suite tickets to the three Yankees home games this week for 25 cents each to people who can conjure up the most creative, original ...Read More...
I just stumbled upon this. Good stuff.
I’m guessing they are using Giles in high leverage situations.
Salem [Oregon] Daily Capital Journal, April 4, 1916:
It was opening day in the Pacific Coast League, and big crowds were ...Read More...

Here’s Fangraph’s Tampa Rays scouting reports. After reading and following Kiley McDaniel’s reporting the last couple of years, Fangraph’s stuff has been very disappointing this year, primarily because of the timetable. If you are doing scouting reports for fantasy players, you need your Top 100 lists out in early March at the latest for them to be useful. Hopefully, they will fix this issue next year as their stuff went from being one of the most useful lists to the least useful. ...Read More...
This week marks the start of another baseball season and, undoubtedly, the continuation of the ongoing beanball season that the Republican presidential campaign has degenerated into.
Over the years, both of these American pastimes—baseball and presidential campaigns—have been governed by quaint, but powerful “unwritten rules.” They both now find themselves under great strain. There are written regulations, too, certainly, inscribed in the form of election laws, or an actual baseball rule book. ...Read More...
(Second) Opening Day, where everybody starts off 0-0 and the pundits don’t matter.
Championship or bust.
On Tyson Ross.
Dodgers’ Joc Pederson aims to make baseball a contact sport again after second-half struggles last year - LA Times
He looked out of sync in the most of the games I watched him this spring.
Happy (Second) Opening Day!
After watching three games yesterday, it feels a little odd to be taking time off work to “observe a religious holiday and watch Opening Day games”.
The appetizers are out of the way, it’s time for the main course! 12 games, aces on (almost) every hill. Get hype. ESPN will have HOU at NYY, SEA at TEX and LAD at SD, while ESPN 2 will have CHC at LAA.

Both Chicago teams change flagship radio stations for 2016 while the Phillies drop WPHT-AM from their gamecasts.
Baseball on the radio has an appeal that can’t be matched by television and lets you follow the game while pretending to get other things done.
Korean Flagships: 1 (Dodgers)
T-Mobile customers can sign up this week, April 3-10, for a free season-long subscription to MLB.TV Premium.
I finished The Cardinal Way. I enjoyed the book and recommend it, especially to Cardinals fans and those interested in the workings of major league front offices. My only quibble with the book is its failure to fully unify the stories/chapters in the book. Don’t get me wrong; each chapter was interesting and worth reading. It’s just that, although you can see how Howard tried to tie everything together, he fell a little short in executing it.
Has anyone else finished the book? If so, what are ...Read More...
David Laurila with a bunch of tidbits in this week’s notes column.
I’m not sure I follow the Yankees plan for Chapman. Why have him ramp up for Spring Training?
Some odd lists from Nick Cafardo.
Looking over his comps I agree that he’ll need to exceed expectations and add more power to stick around at first. It will be fascinating to follow his progress.
If only he could hit a little more.
I haven’t verified every roster but it looks like every team’s Opening Day roster on one page.
The Indians may be the best defensive team in baseball.
