MLB: The World Series MVP Award is now named after Willie Mays

2017 All-MLB team

The Cleveland Indians placed a league-high six players on the 2017 All-MLB team, including starter Corey Kluber, the only unanimous choice among the 45 players, general managers, executives, scouts, analysts, writers, broadcasters and other major league personnel surveyed by Yahoo Sports.

In creating an All-MLB team, the goal was to provide the equivalent of the NFL’s All-Pro team or the All-NBA team: recognition that better represents the full breadth of the season than an All-Star ...

CBS: David Wright says Mets teammates ‘cowardly’ for ripping Terry Collins anonymously

I agree with Wright. At this point those anonymous teammates are only kicking him on his way out the door.

“Terry’s office is 10 feet from our clubhouse. If I’ve ever had any problems or players I know know that if they had any issue, they can march right on down and sit down and man-to-man talk about it. For a player to not put his name on the quote and to bash Terry, who has a lot of success for taking us to the playoffs in back-to-back years, in my opinion, that is cowardly and lazy. The man ...

Aaron Judge’s 51st HR Ties Babe Ruth For Most Yankee HRs At Home

Anytime you’re tied with Babe Ruth in a HR category, you’re doing pretty well:

The homer was Judge’s 32nd in 75 games at Yankee Stadium, tying Babe Ruth’s 1921 tally at the Polo Grounds for the most homers hit at home in a single season by a Yankee.

By working his AL-leading 125th walk later in the contest, Judge became the third player in history, age 25 or younger, with at least 125 runs and 125 walks in a season. Judge joined Ruth (1920, age 25) and Ted Williams (1941 and ‘42, ages 22 and ...

It’s Official: MLB OKs Marlins Sale to Sherman-Jeter Group

Major League Baseball’s owners unanimously welcomed Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter to the ownership ranks on Wednesday, approving the Marlins’ sale to the group led by the venture capitalist and the Yankees legend.

The vote was conducted via conference call. Approval is contingent upon the closing of the sale transaction with the Marlins’ current ownership, led by Jeffrey Loria. That is expected to take place within the next week.

Harrisburg Telegraph, September 28, 1917:

The Boston Americans yesterday defeated by a score of 2 to 0 an all-star team, recruited from leading players of the American League, with Maranville, of the Boston Nationals, at shortstop. The entire proceeds went to the family of the late T.H. Murnane, who, until his death last winter, was one of the most prominent American baseball writers. The receipts were well over $14,000.

How the Cleveland Indians Turned Their Crushing World Series Loss Into a Historic 2017 Season

Lots of interesting tidbits in here.  I’m not just saying that because the Cubs won the World Series.

In Game 7, Indians ace Corey Kluber failed to strike out a batter for the first time as a major league starter. After pitching just four innings, he watched the rest of the game on a television in a small room behind the Indians’ dugout, where he saw Davis homer off Chapman to tie the game in the eighth. (The lockers in the Cubs’ clubhouse had just been covered with protective plastic in ...

Everyone involved said afterward that it was bizarre but that the umpires handled the situation properly. As for the ejection, Joe Girardi said, “Rightfully so. That shouldn’t happen.” Rays manager Kevin Cash said “The Yankees handled it really well and got him out of there.”
