The Dodgers are shopping their expensive outfielders.
As Friedman, Byrnes and Zaidi gathered in Arizona over the weekend to set an offseason agenda and prepare for this week’s GM meetings in Phoenix, they might be coming to the realization that they’ve traded one set of financial handcuffs for another – perhaps velvet-lined but restrictive nonetheless.

According to multiple sources, they spoke to the Blue Jays about first baseman Adam Lind and were unable to agree on a return before he was traded to the Brewers last weekend for pitcher Marco Estrada.
The Jays wanted first baseman/outfielder Steve Pearce, according to sources, but the Orioles weren’t willing to part with him.
Lind became expendable after the Jays claimed first baseman Justin Smoak off waivers from the Mariners. They also have Edwin Encarnacion to play first and rotate at ...
“Pitching three complete games in a World Series is, you know, is sort of a great feat,” Lolich said.
So what will it take to get Hamels?
Industry sources say the Phils are looking for at least three top prospects, two that can play right now and another that isn’t far away. The Cubs and Red Sox are two known suitors and both have the farm systems to get a deal done — if they are willing to meet the Phillies’ rightfully high asking price. Amaro and interim club president Pat Gillick must play the Cubs and Red Sox (and maybe even the Dodgers) against each other as they try to maximize ...

In September, toward the end of the season, Abreu declined to discuss his defection, telling the Tribune in Spanish: “I think it’s best not to talk on that subject. Someday, God willing, if we’re in the position to, I’ll be able to talk about that with all my heart.”
But he spoke without hesitation that living in the U.S. was worth the journey, however frightening it might have been.
“For me, it’s the fact we’re free. That we’re free in everything,” he said. “In Cuba, people don’t ...

cuban free agents
Cafardo makes a pretty good case for how Sandoval fits in Boston. Paying $20+ million for a guy who will probably need to DH for three years of his contract, though, might be tough to swallow in Boston.
When Sandoval’s weight is under control, he’s a very good third baseman. When he’s heavier, his quickness fades. The Red Sox don’t want to sign him just as a future replacement for Ortiz at DH; they want him for third base. Sandoval’s weight fluctuation is a big reason the Giants ...

MLB Network tweeted out a graphic with analysts’ free agent predictions. What is C.J. Nitkowski thinking predicted Russell Martin and Melkey Cabrera in Boston?

Unless another team goes nuts with an offer for Lester, he will end up back in Boston. Of course, it’s entirely within the realm of possibility that someone will.

Corbacho Daudinot is no Mike Trout!
Puig’s attorney, Sean Santini, requested that the case be thrown out because Corbacho Daudinot failed to appear for depositions in Miami in August and September.

let’s have a little fun, and see how good I am at prognosticating both where the primary free agents will sign, and how much they’ll get on the open market.
Boston Red Sox
They want a left-handed hitting third baseman and starting pitching; this market provides both. I think they’ll stretch on the years for Pablo Sandoval (6/$110M) because of his relative youth, but stick to shorter deals on the pitching side, going after both Brandon McCarthy (3/$42M) and Francisco Liriano (3/$39M). ...

A John Franco statue? Don’t the Mets already have a NYC Department of Sanitation dumpster outside Citi Field?
The Mets have a solitary statue of manager Casey Stengel at Citi Field, but it is in the Mets Hall of Fame and Museum. They have yet to install figures of icons like Gil Hodges, Gary Carter, Doc Gooden, John Franco or “The Franchise” Tom Seaver. If and when they do, I hope that they will be outside the gates.
It would be great if Mets fans, even those without tickets who are just ...

Great player. Can’t stay healthy.
Tulowitzki, meanwhile, is one of the best players in baseball when he’s healthy. He proved that once again this year, posting an absurd .340/.432/.603 batting line with 21 homers and 52 RBIs in 91 games. Ah, but it’s that last part that matters most with Tulo. Is he healthy enough to depend on?
Since 2010, Tulowitzki has averaged 106 games per year. In other words, he’s missed roughly a third of the Rockies’ games over the past five years. But injuries might ...

An “evil” Alex Rodriguez urinated on the floor of his cousin’s home to send a message and mark his territory, Yuri Sucart’s wife told the Daily News Thursday in an explosive interview.
Carmen Sucart, whose husband, Yuri Sucart, is A-Rod’s estranged cousin and alleged steroid mule, blasted Rodriguez for accusing her deathly ill husband of trying to extort the troubled Yankee superstar.

Six years is pretty funny. Should an agent really start off the free agent season by trying to scare off teams?
Talked to Sandoval’s agent, Gustavo Vasquez. Sandoval wants at least 6 years. At 28, length of deal more important than last
As I scrolled through my Facebook feed early Monday, an unusual photograph stopped me cold. It was an image of four names written in pencil on a yellowed slip of paper.
These were the names:
Larry Doby. Don Newcombe.
Roy Campanella. Jackie Robinson.
Were those … autographs? Yes. Yes, they were.
Mind – blown.
What was this? Four men who helped eradicate baseball’s color barrier, all famous and accomplished, all with autographs on this one slip of paper.
Doby, the first ...
