The Arizona Fall League begins today. Other than the all star game, are any other games televised? I’ve looked for the info but can’t find a schedule.

Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 10-7-2014

Pittsburgh Gazette Times, October 7, 1914:

J. Carlisle (Red) Smith, star third baseman of the champion Boston Nationals, is in St. Mary’s Hospital, Brooklyn, suffering from a badly fractured and dislocated right leg. He sustained his injury in the ninth inning of [yesterday’s] doubleheader at Ebbets Field. Attending physicians are hopeful that Smith’s career has not been ruined, but they are still doubtful.

Dodgers are in big trouble, and a frustrated Kemp sounds off on ump - CBSSports.com

Ultimately, the players need to overcome whatever game conditions they face.

“You’ve got to be accountable, man,” Kemp continued. “When we do bad things, we get punished. We can get sent down. When stuff like that happens, you should be gone. There should be some type of punishment.”

Cardinals Ride John Lackey and Two Home Runs to Win Over Dodgers - NYTimes.com

The veteran right-hander John Lackey wore a different shade of red last October when he pitched the Boston Red Sox to a World Series title in Game 6. His opponent that night in New England was the St. Louis Cardinals, the team that traded for him this summer.

Fangraphs (Sullivan): What Happened to Clayton Kershaw?

Another great Jeff Sullivan article breaking down, visually, how Clayton Kershaw suffered his historic meltdown versus the Cardinals:

In Game 1 of the NLDS between the Dodgers and the Cardinals, Kershaw was provided with a 6-1 lead. He left a 7-6 deficit, and shortly thereafter he was charged with run number eight. You already understand that the game was insane…ut Clayton Kershaw allowed eight runs. I don’t think there’s ever a bad time to try to figure out how something like that can ...

Fox Sports (Robothal): Sick of Red Sox-Yankees? Then watch the Orioles-Royals ALCS

Well, SugarBear Blanks begs to differ, for one:

I mean, this is what many of you want, right? People tell me all the time, “The networks need to show teams other than the Yankees and Red Sox.” Well, thanks to the outcomes of the two American League Division Series, fans no longer will be bound and gagged and forced to watch the despicable Northeast monsters against their collective will.

So, will you be glued to your televisions? I mean, it’s put up or shut up time, right? The Orioles and ...

Royals catcher Salvador Perez was ‘foggy’ after blow to head in Game 2

Royals catcher Salvador Perez said he felt ‘‘dizzy’’ and “foggy’’ after taking a blow to the head during Game 2 of the American League Division Series, even though he remained in the game.

Speaking before Game 3 on Sunday night, Perez said Royals manager Ned Yost and trainer Nick Kenney asked him a series of questions and made sure he was OK before letting him to continue. The Royals won 4-1 in 11 innings, putting them on the brink of sweeping the Los Angeles Angels in their ...

Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 10-6-2014

Pittsburgh Press, October 6, 1914:

When you applaud a ball player who has just made a great catch and yell “Good boy, Jones!” maybe you are applauding a man named Bascom. There are now 32 players in the major and minor leagues known to be playing under assumed names. How many others are using nom de bats is hard to tell. Many of them are college boys who started professional careers under false names and kept them after becoming well known.

The principal reason for the change of name is family ...

Orioles sweep sends Tigers into a Yankees-like winter | New York Post

Are the Tigers really as bad as the Yankees? Except for their bullpen, I say no.

The Tigers have a lot of Yankees in them. In its owner’s obsession for a title, Detroit has grown expensive, star-laden and old.
...
There was a period when Verlander and Miguel Cabrera were simultaneously the best pitcher and hitter on the planet, and last year Cabrera won the MVP and Max Scherzer the Cy Young. Yet, the Tigers were unable to win it all in their primes together, and now have to contemplate ...

What Bud Selig Hath Wrought—NYMag

I usually like Will Leitch’s stuff. I don’t like this piece. Commissioners aren’t all-knowing, omnipotent deities. They are men managing complicated, high-profile *businesses*. In Selig’s case, despite some errors along the away, he’s done a tremendous job juggling the business and PR sides of his job. He’s been able to do so because he holds real power. To strip his replacement of such power would not be an improvement.

So maybe it’s time to think about changing the job description? Joe ...

Trout troubled by Royals’ high heat - The Orange County Register

Mike Trout is the definitive best player in baseball and has been for at least two full seasons now, probably three. There is no reasonable rebut to that.
But, for the first time since he announced himself as such, Trout enters an offseason with an obvious flaw: He can’t hit the high fastball.

Kansas City abuzz with excitement over Royals’ postseason games - ESPN

That’s nothing. People paid more to not see Derek Jeter play in his last series in Fenway.

The average price for Game 3 is even higher at $440, or well more than double the next-highest price tag for a team’s opening home game ($181 for the Giants).

After a 29-year drought, the Royals have won three postseason games—all in extra innings.
The average price for division series tickets across Missouri, in St. Louis, meanwhile, was roughly $90, the lowest tab among the postseason teams, according ...
