How Bad Was Amed Rosario’s Debut, Exactly? | FanGraphs Baseball

Not exactly an optimistic view of Rosario’s future. Of course, it’s not exactly based on a lot of data.

Amed Rosario comes up big as Mets split doubleheader | New York Post

Two weeks ago, Rosario hit a go-ahead homer in the ninth inning in Philadelphia that led the Mets to victory. The power display comes after a minor league career in which Rosario hit only 17 homers in 1,775 at-bats.

“I came from a league where I wasn’t seeing pitches come at me this fast,” Rosario said. “But as I have adjusted, I feel that I am doing better.”

And defensively, Rosario — as advertised — has shined.

“Our guys keep coming in with our defensive analysis, and he has moved us up immensely, just with his play at shortstop,” Collins said. “He has played great there.”

Rosario notches second four-hit game for 51s | MiLB.com News

What Amed Rosario needs to work on.

In the seventh, Rosario lined an 0-1 pitch to center before completing his night with a run-scoring single to center in the ninth.

“Whenever he stays up the middle with his approach, you know he’s on,” Lopez added. “The main thing for him right now is to control the strike zone and have better at-bats, and make sure he’s up the middle with his approach. We want him to get to know the zone a little better and he’s doing well with it.”

Heyman | Mets Likely To Promote Shortstop Amed Rosario Soon

With the Mets luck this year…

Two weeks later he gets DL’d “with a minor leg injury”. Two months later his leg gets amputated.

Top prospect Amed Rosario may be called up soon by the New York Mets, with a source telling FanRag Sports that the team may call him up from Triple-A Las Vegas in a week or so.

MetsBlog: Mets have the worst infield defense in baseball

Free Amed Rosario!

The Mets have the worst infield defense in baseball, as measured by Defensive Runs Saved (DRS), tweeted Mark Simon of ESPN.

The Mets’ -32 DRS are far worse than the second-worst team on the list (the Padres), who have -22 DRS.

Using the Defensive Runs Saved metric, the Cubs—with 46 DRS—have the best infield defense in baseball.

The Mets have primarily been using Lucas Duda at first base, Asdrubal Cabrera at second base, Jose Reyes at shortstop, and Wilmer Flores at third base recently.

What Amed Rosario is learning as Mets resist calling | New York Post

Is this a temperament issue with Rosario or Alderson?

Alderson, as part of a planned trip, saw the Mets’ top prospect play two games this past week at Smith’s Ballpark as the Mets Triple-A Las Vegas affiliate took on the Angels’ Salt Lake Bees. The GM’s first-hand observations meshed with what the organization already thought, as well as what most industry folks appear to think: There is little doubt Rosario could help the Mets right now if they needed him. And there also is little doubt he could benefit from more grooming at the top minor league rung.
...
Barring a major injury to one of the club’s current infielders, set your Rosario arrival over/under date as Aug. 1, by which time the currently struggling team will have a clear idea of its direction.

Amid Defensive Woes, Mets Try to Avoid Fumbling Top Prospect’s Call-Up - The New York Times

OK, the Mets are safely past the Super 2 date. Is he still not ready? Is he still not an improvement to Cabrera at shortstop? That’s a tough sell. The idea they have a “surplus of left-side infielders” is pretty funny though. That surplus is easily fixed by releasing Reyes.

Few have doubted Rosario’s ability to bring energy to a lineup. But a strong minor league track record does not guarantee instant success against better competition. And if Rosario were to be called up soon, the Mets would have to manage a surplus of left-side infielders.

Because of his hot hitting, Wilmer Flores has taken away the third-base job from Reyes, who has struggled and seems quite likely to remain a backup. Cabrera was an important player last season but has been slowed by injuries. If Rosario were to take his spot at shortstop, Cabrera could shift to another infield position, although that could affect Flores and Reyes.

Amed Rosario might get called up sooner rather than later | Newsday

Super 2 cutoff is on the horizon. Barring injury, he’ll be up this month.

Amed Rosario might be on the way. When Sandy Alderson was asked about the heralded shortstop during a forum for season ticket-holders before Sunday’s game, the general manager said, “Yes, it could be this year.”

Alderson said he will see Rosario play this week when Triple-A Las Vegas visits Salt Lake City. He told the group, gathered in the stands down the leftfield line, that Rosario indeed had compiled enough at-bats at Double-A the previous two years and Triple-A this year to merit consideration.

Rosario’s streak reaches sweet 16 for 51s | MiLB.com News

What’s the Super 2 day again? Of course, playing in the PCL in Vegas makes it a little tough to judge where his offense really is.

Although he just turned 21 six months ago, Rosario has shown no problems adjusting to Triple-A. Through his first 50 games in the Pacific Coast League, he’s hitting .354/.393/.519 with 21 extra-base hits, 37 RBIs and 32 runs scored. His 73 hits stand second to Reno’s Ketel Marte (82) and his 10 stolen bases are eighth-most in the circuit.
