CC Sabathia to make 2019 debut on Saturday

James Wagner of The New York Times reports that lefty CC Sabathia will start on Saturday for the Yankees. Sabathia underwent angioplasty in December and had been working his way back since.

Not the best picture with this article, I should say.

CC Sabathia has chance to bolster Hall of Fame case before retiring after 2019 season

New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia is expected to announce on Saturday that the upcoming season will be his last, but he still has plenty on the line in 2019.

Not only are the Yankees odds-on favorite to win the World Series, but on the cusp of 3,000 career strikeouts, Sabathia has a chance to pad his resume for a chance at induction into the Hall of Fame.

Baseball is a game of numbers, and boy do people love round numbers. While he won’t have a chance at 300 wins – unless he somehow wins 54 games in relief or reverses course and plays several more years – 3,000 strikeouts is a notable milestone. At 2,986 career punch-outs, he should reach that mark in two to three starts and could pass several legends by season’s end.

Notes on a pitcher on his way out.

Yankees’ CC Sabathia had heart surgery, to be ready for spring training

New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia is expected to be ready for spring training after undergoing heart surgery earlier this month.

Sabathia had a stent inserted into his heart to relieve a blockage in one of the left-hander’s arteries, Sabathia’s agent, Kyle Thousand, told The Athletic.

“CC is doing great and will be reporting to spring training on time to get ready to play for his upcoming final season in 2019,” Thousand said.

Richard Adler and Jerry Ross wrote a song on this subject, I believe.

Yankees pay Sabathia’s $500K bonus despite ejection in finale

CC Sabathia gave up half a million dollars to show he had his teammate’s back. Instead, the New York Yankees paid their veteran left-hander for his loyalty.

The 38-year-old pitcher was two innings from receiving a $500,000 for pitching 155 innings last season when he was ejected for throwing at the Tampa Bay Rays’ Jesus Sucre in the sixth inning of Sabathia’s final outing of the season. Rather than pitch out of the bullpen to get his bonus, Sabathia stayed at 153 innings.

A review of the Yankees’ final luxury tax payroll for the season revealed the Yankees paid Sabathia the $500,000 bonus, multiple outlets reported Monday.

Would that I could do something like that and get so much money for it.

CC Sabathia to return to Yankees in 2019 | MLB.com

I know some Yankees fans might not be happy but he’s a decent 5th starter, especially at that price.

Sabathia and the Yankees have agreed to terms on a one-year, $8 million deal, MLB.com has confirmed. The deal has not yet been officially announced because Sabathia must undergo a physical, which is expected to take place on Wednesday.
