Leaking beer and Cracker Jack mice: 5 bizarre things ESPN found in stadium food reports

Eating at a professional sports stadium is expensive for the fan and lucrative for the concession provider. It can also be a gross time for health inspectors, as ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” detailed in a report released Thursday.

“What’s lurking in your stadium food?” provided some thoroughly disturbing answers. The analysis looked at 16,900 routine food-safety inspection reports throughout 2016 and 2017 from local health departments of 111 North American sports venues.

It found that 28 percent of the stadiums had high-level violations at at least half of the outlets inspected. Those violations are ones that can pose a risk for foodborne illnesses.

For those of you who wanted another reason to eat before going to the game….

Elevating Rockies’ game? Coors seems to factor in awards

DENVER — The Colorado Rockies would like to air a little grievance: They’re thin on MVP winners in their history. Even lighter on Cy Young candidates.

They wouldn’t mind a little altitude adjustment when it comes to conventional thinking at Coors Field. As it stands, sometimes they feel like hitters get penalized for hitting at higher elevation half the time and the pitchers don’t get rewarded highly enough.

It’s a scale that doesn’t seem balanced.

A point of some interest to ponder, especially as we consider how the BBWAA will treat Todd Helton in the coming months.

Bader, other Cardinals rookies learning ‘an outfielder’s nightmare’ at Coors

“It felt like I’m watching the game instead of playing it,” Bader said. “Center feels so far away. It’s just a large, large field. There is a large distance between me and home plate.

“It’s like it’s 800 feet away.”

Kid did alright, though, with several fine catches in the series. Also scored from second today on a high chopper to the 2B. Don’t know how much he’ll hit, but he’s electrifying to watch.
