Aubrey Huff, Seth McClung feuding on Twitter

Seth McClung pitched for six seasons for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers. His time in Tampa Bay overlapped with Aubrey Huff’s time with the Devil Rays for several seasons, making them teammates.

It would seem, however, that they did not get along too well. They certainly aren’t getting along very well now if their interaction on Twitter over the past couple of days is any indication.

Yesterday a fan asked McClung who was “the biggest turd” with whom he played. McClung did not hesitate to answer

For those of you who want a reminder as for why most respectable people steer far clear of Twitter….

Royals-White Sox Beef Gains New Life As Pitcher Tossed For Hitting Tim Anderson In The Head

The beef between White Sox shortstop and good bat-flipper Tim Anderson and the Kansas City Royals reared its ugly head again Wednesday night, when Anderson was plunked in the helmet in the second inning by Royals starter Glenn Sparkman. In an effort to get out ahead of any escalating hostility, home plate umpire Mark Carlson immediately tossed Sparkman for what upon further review could very easily have been a poorly thrown changeup.

As the Royals broadcast was at pains to point out, Sparkman’s pitch didn’t have the velocity of the usual chin-music message pitch, clocking in at a relatively breezy 86 miles per hour. Sparkman’s fastball goes into the low to mid-90s; both his changeup and slider coast along in the mid-80s, suggesting this could have been a mishandled off-speed pitch, and not a heater with bad intentions. And then there’s the body language of both Sparkman and catcher Martín Maldonado, both of whom seemed dejected and disappointed by the HBP. After the game Royals manager Ned Yost was adamant that Sparkman’s pitch was in no way an expression of animosity toward Anderson:

...

But there’s history to consider, here. The Royals had a dumb, minimally spiced beef with Anderson in 2018 which may have flavored a benches-clearing incident back in April, when Anderson was plunked in the can by Royals pitcher Brad Keller for celebrating an earlier dinger. Keller, Anderson, and a couple coaches were ejected from that game, and then, ridiculously, Anderson was suspended for a game for having reportedly called Keller a “weak-ass ####### N-word” during the exchange.

Well, if any teams are going to feud, why not these two?

Todd Frazier and Adam Eaton’s deliciously petty beef is reaching ‘Real Housewives’ levels

Baseball beef is a special kind of beef because, good lord, can baseball players hold a grudge. Think about Hunter Strickland throwing at Bryce Harper two years after he felt like Harper had shown him up. Think about CC Sabathia vs. the Tampa Bay Rays, whose beef should be a TV show because it comes in seasons.

Todd Frazier and Adam Eaton may be rewriting the record book on baseball players holding onto petty beefs — and it’s reaching delicious, “Real Housewives” type levels.

Frazier, now with the New York Mets, and Eaton, now with the Washington Nationals, used to be teammates on the 2016 Chicago White Sox, a team that’s just ripe for a 30-for-30 one day. It was the White Sox team that exiled young Drake LaRoche from the clubhouse. And the White Sox team that caused Chris Sale to cut up his throwback jersey and get sent home.

Somehow the Frazier-Eaton beef has outlived both of those things — and heck, Drake LaRoche might be able to vote by now. Frazier and Eaton had to be separated during Monday night’s Mets-Nats game in NYC.

Has anyone considered the very real possibility that one of the reasons why baseball has had trouble creating stars among the broader public lately is the sense that the sport is dominated by petty jerks who are unappealing if you spend any time thinking about them?
