Phillies manager Gabe Kapler has no issue with fans booing Bryce Harper

Philadelphia sports fans are certainly no strangers to booing, as they’re passionate about their teams, during both wins and losses.

Sometimes it translates to to cheering, but other times it translates to boos. Eagles fans even once booed Santa Claus.

And even with all that, it’s been a bit surprising to see fans booing $330 million man Bryce Harper. He will, after all, be playing for the team for the next 13 seasons.

Alternatively, one could argue that that would encourage the fans to boo all the more….

Gabe Kapler makes an important investment in an important pitcher

Confidence is baseball’s magic potion and teams these days spend big money on sports psychologists who, among other things, try to help players brew that important intangible. But sometimes there’s nothing scientific about the building of a player’s confidence. Sometimes it just takes the boss showing a little faith in the guy.

Gabe Kapler did more than preside over the Phillies’ sixth win in eight games on Sunday. He made an important investment in an important pitcher who seems primed for a big payoff this season.

Taking the mound the day before his 25th birthday, Zach Eflin backboned a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins with seven innings of one-run ball. He got help, lots of it, particularly from Rhys Hoskins, who clubbed a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth, left fielder Andrew McCutchen, who gunned down a run at the plate, and relievers David Robertson, Adam Morgan and Hector Neris, who combined for six outs to protect a one-run lead.

It’s not that often that one spots a headline this generic…..

This year, Gabe Kapler using his gut to set Phillies’ lineup — here’s what that means

TAMPA, Fla. — With the Phillies’ lineup as deep and as talented as it’s been in a decade, fans can’t get enough of lineup chatter.

Who should lead off?

Is the two-hole still reserved for the Phils’ best hitter, as Gabe Kapler laid it out in 2018?

Usually, when my gut does the thinking for me, it means that I either already am violently ill or that I’m going to be…

Gabe Kapler is high on Seranthony Dominguez: ‘He has no ceiling’

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Seranthony Dominguez made his major league debut five weeks into the season last year and quickly became manager Gabe Kapler’s favorite bullpen weapon.

“When Seranthony is at his best, there may not be a better reliever in baseball,” Kapler said after Dominguez made his spring debut with three quick outs against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.

“He has no ceiling. He can be as good as anyone in the league.”

What happens to his stuff when the rains come in?
