Pujols stands alone atop foreign-born hits list

ANAHEIM—The milestones keep coming for Albert Pujols, who set another record on Wednesday, as he became the all-time hits leader among players born outside the United States, passing Adrian Beltre with career hit No. 3,167 on an RBI single to right field in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s 7-4 win over the Pirates.

Pujols came to the plate against right-hander Chris Archer with two outs, and scored Mike Trout with a single to right after Trout stole second. The single helped Pujols move into 15th place on the all-time hits list and past Beltre, who, like Pujols, hails from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Pujols went 2-for-4 with three RBIs on the night, adding a two-run single in the eighth.

...

“It’s pretty special. but I give all the glory to God, first of all,” Pujols said. “I don’t play for the records. It’s good to have on your resume as a ballplayer, but there are so many people around me who helped me along the way to get where I am today. That includes my wife, my kids, my family and my coaches I had in the past.”

Pujols, 39, has reached several milestones this year, including reaching 2,000 RBIs on May 9, and becoming the first member of the 650-homer, 650-double club on July 28. Next up on the all-time hits list is Cal Ripken Jr. with 3,184 hits, while he’s nine homers away from catching Willie Mays for fifth all-time with 660 homers.

A reminder about all the milestones you can reach, even when you’re barely at replacement value.

MLB roundup: Pujols hits 2 HRs, ties Winfield in hits

Albert Pujols hit two home runs, and the visiting Los Angeles Angels beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 on Saturday.

It was the 59th career multi-homer game for Pujols, who homered in the first and fourth innings, and his first since July 12, 2018, against Seattle. He was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs.

The two homers and a single gave Pujols 3,110 career hits, tying him with Dave Winfield for 22nd place on the all-time list.

Luke Bard (1-1) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Angels, who have won 10 of 14. Dylan Bundy (1-5) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits over five innings.

Next up: A-Rod.

Robinson Cano joins a club only occupied by Derek Jeter and Lou Gehrig with new milestone

It’s still hard to say if he reaches the vaunted 3,000 mark, but Robinson Cano entered rarefied air on Tuesday when he notched career hit No. 2,500.

Facing San Diego Padres rookie Cal Quantrill in the first inning, the New York Mets second baseman belted a ground-rule double over the Petco Park fence.

Cano is the 101st player in MLB history to record 2,500 career hits and only the third active player along with Albert Pujols (3,106) and Miguel Cabrera (2,712). Cano became the sixth Dominican-born player, joining Pujols, Adrian Beltre, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., Manny Ramirez and Julio Franco.

Cano also somehow made New York Yankees history with the hit, despite not having played for the team in six years.

For those who want a reminder as for how much the Yankees owe to having a large pocketbook and a willingness to spend….

O’ Yeah! Chris Davis Ends Record Hitless Streak, Smacks First Hit Of Season

BOSTON (WJZ) — Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis’ historic streak is finally behind him.  The struggling slugger smacked a two-RBI single off of Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello in the top of the first inning of Saturday’s game at Fenway Park,  ending a brutal string of 54 hitless at-bats that stretched back to September 14th of last season.

Players in the Orioles dugout gave Davis a rousing ovation after the hit as he stood smiling on first base, and the Boston crowd also gave him a warm reception. To celebrate the moment himself, he even asked to keep the baseball.

Davis had surpassed the record held by former Los Angeles Dodgers utilityman Eugenio Velez (46 ABs) set back in 2011.

It isn’t all sunshine for Davis quite yet though as he now must work to get on base with his bat more frequently, particularly if he wants to win back the support of frustrated Orioles fans. He’s certainly on his way though. Davis led all batters in the game, going 3 for 5, including two doubles, and knocking in four runs. The breakout game lifted his average for the season to .079.

So, how do we celebrate the end of this streak?

Albert Pujols passes Ichiro Suzuki on all-time hits list

Angels DH Albert Pujols entered Sunday afternoon’s game against the Rangers tied with Ichiro Suzuki in 23rd place on Major League Baseball’s all-time hits list at 3,089. Pujols broke the tie to secure 23rd place all to himself with a third-inning single to right field.

There are eleven players who have fewer than 200 hits more than Pujols- how many of them will he catch?
