Red Sox’ Dustin Pedroia says, in hindsight, he shouldn’t have had knee surgery

FORT MYERS, Fla.—As Dustin Pedroia readies for a comeback campaign, the Red Sox second baseman says, in hindsight, he would have handled his knee injury differently.

Pedroia underwent an operation in November 2017 that kept him sidelined for all but three games in the 2018 season. The 35-year-old veteran admitted Friday at JetBlue Park that if he could turn back time, he would decide against the cartilage restoration procedure.

“I wouldn’t have done it,” Pedroia said. “I don’t regret doing it, but looking back and knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t have done it.”

I have to wonder what this does to the way he’s remembered for posterity- it’s never a positive when your team does far better without you than they ever did with you.

Molina rehabs from knee surgery, plans to play in mid-March

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina plans to begin playing spring training games in mid-March as he recovers from recent knee surgery.

The longtime star had a minor cleanup procedure on his left knee last month.

“Right now, I’m probably 50 percent with my knee,” Molina said Monday at the Cardinals Winter Warm-Up fan event. “I keep working on my rehab down there in Jupiter (Florida). We’re planning to be 100 percent ready.”

Opening Day possible for Pedroia, who doesn’t need offseason surgery

BOSTON — Dustin Pedroia is not planning on having surgery on his left knee and could be ready for Opening Day, Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Monday.

Pedroia was limited to just three big league games in 2018 and had an arthroscopic procedure on the knee in July. That was after he underwent major surgery on the knee in October 2017.

“He has continued rehab and therapy. And that’s what he is going to continue to do,” Dombrowski said on a conference call. “He will do that through about the middle of December. And start then some additional, then get back into exercising, more physical activities other than the therapy at that point. And then around the middle, sometime in January, beginning of January, middle of January, start running at that point. So we’re hopeful he’ll be ready for the season. So really with that prognosis, I would think most of our — I can never say it’s over, because you just never know what ends up taking place. But we’re really, as far as position players, pretty well set.”

So, how long before the other shoe drops?

Padres’ Richard to have surgery on both knees

While the Padres announced Richard was placed on the disabled list with left knee inflammation and Green later confirmed surgery on that knee that will end Richard’s season, two sources said Richard is actually going to undergo two surgeries in the next few weeks to clean up lingering issues (bone spurs, rough cartilage and possibly more). Richard, 34, has been affected by the issues since late April and has had surgeries on both knees in past years.

One source said Richard was still reluctant to have the procedures because he didn’t want to be seen as giving up on his team.

Clayton seems like a good guy but his team has already been given up on. They are 51-83 and he personally has the worst stats of any starter in the league because he’s started 27 games with inflammation in both knees. A true innings-eater.

Now their rotation may be entirely rookies, with Tyson Ross gone to the Cardinals on waivers.
