Johnny Damon: ‘Ready’ for comeback

The three-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion and five-time .300 hitter is staying in shape, swinging the bat and eager to return to the majors. The 40-year-old Damon last played for Cleveland in 2012, but isn’t quite ready for retirement.

“When you feel you can still outhit at least half the league and you don’t get that call, it’s rough,” Damon told The Associated Press in a phone interview Friday. “The biggest reason to play is to have a chance to win. Obviously, 3,000 hits would be great but winning is the reason I started playing this game. I’m going to continue to stay in shape and I’ll be ready.”

Damon hit 222/281/329 in 207 AB in 2012.

Full Count » Jonny Gomes, Yunel Escobar, Sean Rodriguez ejected after Red Sox, Rays clear benches

This is stupid. Getting angry because a team stole a base with only a five-run lead?? Instead of yelling, how about driving in some runs so your team doesn’t lose 10 games in a row?

The two teams cleared their benches once again, this time as a result of a Yunel Escobar steal of third with two outs in the seventh inning and Tampa Bay carrying an 8-3 lead.

Escobar could be seen shouting at the Red Sox dugout, where Red Sox catcher David Ross had been yelling his displeasure of the stolen base. Escobar left third and made a move toward the Sox’ dugout, at which time both benches cleared.

Red Sox left fielder Jonny Gomes came in and shoved Escobar in the face, ultimately leading to his ejection.
