For Minor League Free Agents, Freedom’s Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose | 2080 Baseball

The plight of the six-year minor league free agent.

There are generally two types of minor league free agents: those with some big league or significant Triple-A experience whose resumes sell themselves, and those who have filled more of an “organizational” role with their original teams and have often not received much playing time above the Double-A level. The players with more upper level and MLB experience often have more than one organization to choose from, while the other group can often be lucky to find one viable suitor.

MINOR LEAGUE FREE AGENTS 2016

Sorry if this was posted already, I missed it if it was.

The group includes (with original drafting organization) first-rounders Michael Choice (Athletics), Alex Wimmers (Twins), Kellin Deglan (Rangers) and Cito Culver (Yankees); supplemental first-rounders Matt Lipka (Braves), Taylor Lindsey (Angels), Asher Wojciechowski (Blue Jays), Drew Vettleson (Rays) and Peter Tago (Rockies); second-rounder Stetson Allie (Pirates); and third-rounders Rob Brantly (Tigers), Pat Dean (Twins), Leon Landry (Dodgers) and Sean Coyle (Red Sox)

In the case of these 14 players, they qualified for minor league free agency because they signed a minor league Uniform Player Contract in 2010 and have not been released from the terms of that UPC.
