Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 1-22-2013

El Paso Herald, January 22, 1913:

Setting aside the rumors that he was to be traded to the New York American league team, Napoleon Lajoie, the Cleveland American league second baseman, has signed a contract with the local team.

It’s a good thing too. Would have been really awkward if Lajoie had been playing against the Naps.

Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 1-2-2013

Washington Times, January 2, 1913:

When Larry Lajoie leaves the game baseball will lose the greatest batsman that ever lived. There is no room for argument about Larry’s honor.

O RLY?

(I’ll let the omission of Babe Ruth slide. This was written in 1913, Ruth didn’t make his professional debut until 1914, and Lajoie retired after the 1916 season.)
