Chicago White Sox 2019 Top 50 Prospects | Prospects1500

A lot of effort going into this prospect site. I wish they would use the standard 20/80 scale instead of tiering prospects. If I have time I’ll add them to my prospects rankings sheet. It’s always interesting to me to see where there is consensus and to find outliers. Anyway, take a look.

Year-end MLB Top 100 Prospects list

The next big thing.

Wander Franco, SS, Rays (No. 40 to No. 14)
Signed in July 2017, Franco had one of the most stirring professional, and United States, debuts in recent memory, making the Rookie-level Appalachian League look easy with a .351/.418/.587 line with 11 homers and 57 RBIs in 61 games.

Should We Adjust How We Evaluate Pitching Prospects? | FanGraphs Baseball

Each season I consolidate prospect ratings and rankings from multiple sources. The last two years, based on research about typical WAR yields, I’ve shifted most pitchers downward and now spend most of my top picks on position players and try to stock up on pitchers later in the drafts. My stockpile of position players is really growing, while I’m still occasionally hitting on pitchers later.

My interest in these three specific pitchers relates to my work on last winter’s top-100 list with Eric. He and I purposely moved pitchers, as a population, down our rankings a bit to better reflect how many wins pitchers create relative to position players. Traditionally, there appears to be too little consideration in these lists for pitcher attrition. (This is the case for our own old lists, as well.) It’s easy to downgrade the Cease/Manning types due to questions about their future roles, but it’s also just as easy to boost them on the grounds that they could be the power-over-feel types who turn into Max Scherzer.
