SBNation: 9% of Canada watched Troy Tulowitzki’s 12-pitch battle with Andrew Miller

Some staggering stats have been sent by Sportsnet since the Blue Jays’ huge trade-deadline moves, but nothing as mind-boggling as this: 3.14 million people tuned in on Sportsnet’s broadcast of the game against the Yankees at 10:19 pm on Friday, when Troy Tulowitzki was engaged in a 12-pitch battle against Andrew Miller.

How confident are you in your MLB general manager? - MLB Daily Dish

In the end, the Cubs and the Astros finished in a virtual tie for the top spot, with their fanbases each rating them at just a shade under 4.9 out of 5.0. This isn’t terribly surprising. Both clubs are run by exceptionally smart people, with excellent reputations, and are competitive a year ahead of schedule. It’s easy to buy into that. To no one’s surprise, the Marlins finished dead last, as every single respondent rated their confidence in Mike Berger at one. The other day, Mike Hill, President of Baseball Operations for the Marlins, said that he “would hope our fans are educated enough to see what we’re doing here.” Rest assured, Mike. They are.

TV Ratings Up, But Teams Still Dependent on Cable Providers

Baseball is dead.

Before getting to baseball’s dependence on the health of major cable companies, here is a brief look at some early season numbers. The first month of the season has seen big increases in viewership for national games on Fox Sports 1 and MLB Network, including double the amount of viewers aged 18 to 34 watching game on Fox Sports 1. The Chicago Cubs have doubled their ratings after their increased commitment in the offseason as well as the arrival of Kris Bryant. The Kansas City Royals have done the same coming off their World Series appearance. The Houston Astros have seen an increase in viewership after finally resolving their local disputes, at least as far as getting their games on all the local cable packages. The Arizona Diamondbacks have seen their highest ratings in a decade while the games of the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Diego Padres rank first in their broadcast territories among all shows. A recent article by Maury Brown at Forbes showed that baseball games beat playoff games from the NHL and NBA in many markets across the country.

The ratings so far this season are a great indicator of baseball’s popularity. Not only is baseball beating playoffs in other sports, it is also beating first-run shows on networks.

Mike Gimbel’s RPA ratings updated

I just posted, on my website, the RPA screen shots from my software for every MLB hitter in 2014 with at least 200 computed plate appearances. These screen shots contain the data and RPA ratings against each of the 6 types of pitchers faced. You will need an adequate sized screen to see the detail.

Also: the team ratings (including every player and pitcher) on every American league Team from 1901 - 1980 and EVERY National League team from 1900 - 1970 can also be viewed.

The URL I listed will take you directly there.
