Second Dugout Dust-Up For Orioles: Is Frustration Setting In?

It is easy to understand why frustration might be setting in with the Baltimore Orioles. They’re about to have a second straight 100-loss season — although they’ll do better this year than last — and the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel seems to be quite a ways away.

But what’s a bit troubling is the Orioles had another incident Wednesday where a player and a coach or manager got into a brief disagreement — and worse, it was caught on TV. Pitcher Richard Bleier clearly was unhappy when coming off the mound after allowing three runs in the fifth inning of an 8-4 loss in Washington Wednesday night and made a few comments to coach Jose Flores, who handles defensive positioning.

“I think I just let frustration kind of boil over, some stuff about some balls that I thought maybe … defensive positioning, I guess,” Bleier said to The Baltimore Sun. “I probably could have done better for myself to keep my mouth shut, and unfortunately, I may have said something. You guys saw the rest.”

Bleier said something, Flores clearly was upset and the two needed to be separated a few times. Chris Davis wound up having a similar disagreement with manager Brandon Hyde earlier this month when the first baseman had to be stopped from chasing the skipper down the steps of the dugout in Baltimore and restrained. That also was caught on TV.

Truth be told, if frustration isn’t setting in by now, they’re far better men than me.
