#2: White Sox Find a Third Baseman
Acquire: Todd Frazier
Cost: Frankie Montas, Trayce Thompson, Micah Johnson
A year ago, the White Sox tried to go for it despite a flawed roster, and ended up struggling due to the vast amount of at-bats wasted on replacement-level scrubs. This winter, the White Sox have again attempted to push their chips to contend in the short-term, but those hopes got a nice boost when they somehow managed to convince the Reds to give them Todd Frazier for a package of talent that won’t cripple the organization. Frazier’s second-half swoon may have dragged his value down below a reasonable level, since teams saw him hit just .220/.274/.390 in the second half, but kudos to Rick Hahn for taking advantage and turning some spare parts into a +3 to +4 win third baseman. With Frazier at third base, the team has turned a black hole into a real strength, and while they could still use some additional improvements, the Frazier acquisition should go a long way to getting the White Sox back into the AL Central race.

Somewhere Brian Kenny is smiling.
“It opened my eyes about how baseball really is and how wins and losses (for a pitcher) don’t really matter so much, but, at the same time, how great they are,” Miller said. “I want to win every game I pitch. It’s a crazy game and you can have a good game and still get the loss.”

Games and trades aren’t won in the off-season. Although it looks like the Braves won this trade, it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
Coppolella has been a frequent target of criticism for tearing down the Braves, not just from media (moi?), but also from Braves fans. Well, not this time. Fans will love that Swanson is from Kennesaw, Ga., love his bat, love his speed. Blair adds to the endless stable of arms that that Coppolella collects like rare baseball cards. Inciarte will help the Braves better compete in 2016.
Think about it: The Braves traded one season of Jason Heyward for four of Miller, plus pitching prospect Tyrell Jenkins. They have turned that into Swanson, Blair, Inciarte and Jenkins — an undeniably strong haul for an outfielder who was entering his free-agent year.
The early reviews are in. The early reviews mean nothing. But once again, baseball people are looking at the D-backs and saying, “Huh?”

The Diamondbacks and Giants are two more of the 20 or so teams that are said to have expressed interest in Miller. The Braves generally are seeking to upgrade their offense, though obviously in the case of Severino they are willing to look at young pitchers, as well.
One rival GM, while not denigrating the asking prices, said the Braves were “very aggressive” with their proposal.
While there’s no word of anything being close, no one’s exactly hanging up yet. Miller raised his value with a very nice year, and as a rival said, “The (Braves) made a very nice deal to get him.” That is true, as they also obtained Tyrell Jenkins in a two-for-two deal with the Cardinals for outfielder Jason Heyward, who is now a free agent, and Jordan Walden.
Now, the Braves are able to ask a lot for Miller because the price of pitching isn’t going down, even with several top starters free agents. The Braves can suggest that Miller is comparable or close to comparable to Jordan Zimmerman, who just got a $110-million, five-year deal rom the Tigers; by comparison, Miller should make less than $30 million via arbitration over the next three seasons. That represents a major savings.
