Cardinals taking it slowly with Ozuna’s repaired shoulder

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Marcel Ozuna will be on a limited throwing program to start the spring but is expected to be ready for opening day, manager Mike Shildt said Saturday.

Ozuna underwent offseason shoulder surgery and is still in the rehabilitation process.

“Just making sure that he’s being stretched out, healthy and moving forward,” Shildt said. “But his program has been nothing but positive feedback, has been great, and he’s feeling good.”

Being away from the Marlins has to be much better in terms of his mental health….

A’s pitcher Sean Manaea is ‘feeling great’ following shoulder surgery

OAKLAND - When Sean Manaea underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery in Septemeber, the expectation was that he would miss most, if not all, of the 2019 season.

Now, less than five months later, the A’s are optimistic their talented left-hander could return sometime around the All-Star Break.

“I’m feeling great,” Manaea told NBC Sports California. “This time compared to last year is 100 times better than how I felt. The surgery definitely fixed pretty much everything that was going on with my shoulder.”

A’s lose Sean Manaea to shoulder surgery at worst possible time

With just weeks to go before the postseason starts, the Oakland Athletics have lost their best pitcher. Sean Manaea will undergo surgery on his pitching shoulder Sept. 19. A’s manager Bob Melvin doesn’t expect to have Manaea back until after the 2019 season.

Prior to the injury, the 26-year-old Manaea posted a 3.59 ERA over 160 2/3 innings. Manaea initially went on the disabled list in late August due to a shoulder issue. After being examined, doctors determined he would need to have surgery.

The surgery comes at an awful time for the A’s. The team will now lose one of its best pitchers just weeks before the postseason. The Athletics currently hold a 7.5-game lead for the second wild-card spot in the American League. Manaea would have been a candidate to start for the team in the wild-card game.
