OT: The Soccer Thread January, 2014

With no Champions League or international matches of note, it’s all about the clubs an cup competitions this month:

January 6th: Lazio vs Inter
January 7th: Sunderland vs Man U in the League Cup, Valencia vs Atleti in Copa del Rey
January 8th: West Ham vs Man City in the League Cup
January 10th: Leicester City vs Derby in an important promotion game, Montpelier vs Monaco in Ligue Uhn.
January 11th: Cardiff vs West Ham in a relegation 6 pointer, will Man U lose to Swansea at home again?, but the day’s HUGE game is Barcelona hosting Atletico Madrid. This could decide La Liga.
January 12th: Newcastle vs Man City
January 13th: Aston Villa vs Arsenal
January 14th: FA Cup replays featuring Fulham vs Norwich, second leg of Valencia and Atleti in the Copa del Rey
January 15th: Man City host Blackburn in an FA Cup replay, Lyon vs Marseilles in the French Cup
January 17th: St. Etienne vs Lille
January 18th: Lots of games, no real standouts
January 19th: Swansea vs Spurs, Chelsea vs Man U
January 20th: West Brom vs Everton
January 21st: West Ham vs Man City in the League Cup
January 22nd: Man U vs Sunderland in the League Cup
January 24th: Monchengladbach vs Bayern Munich, not that it really matters
January 25th: FA Cup 4th round featuring Chelsea vs Stoke, Lazio vs Juventus, Monaco vs Marseilles
January 26th: Barca vs Malaga
January 28th: Liverpool vs Everton, Southampton vs Arsenal
January 29th: Tottenahm Hotspur FC vs Man City, Stuttgart vs Bayern
January 31st: Feyenoord vs Chelsea B in Holland, Braunschweig vs Borussia Dortmund

I’d say that Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid is the game of the month and declare it the BBTF Off Topic Game of the Month! Be there!

As Bloomberg departs, a soccer arena deal emerges

No word yet on how Mariano Rivera be honored during the ceremonial implosion of the garages.

According to a confidential outline of the formative deal obtained by Capital New York, the 10-acre site would encompass three of Yankee Stadium’s financially troubled parking lots, a portion of 153rd Street, and a building on the same street now occupied by an elevator parts company called GAL Manufacturing that employs about 400 people.

OT: The Soccer Thread, November 2013

Some of the remaining big games this month:

November 4th: Aberdeen vs Partick Thistle!
November 5th: Champions League group games highlighted by Juventus vs Real Madrid. Evil will win.
November 6th: More Champions League. A much better slate of games than Tuesday. Good luck deciding what to watch. At night, the MLS playoffs continue with NY vs Houston and SKC vs New England.
November 7th: The Intertoto Cup, as David Pleat still calls it. Tottenham faces Sheriff at the Lane. MLS playoffs feature Galaxy vs RSL and Portland vs Seattle.
November 9th: Not a great slate of games. The FA Cup kicks off in earnest if you have a hankering for some lower league action.
November 10th: Man U vs Arsenal is the big game on a day that also features Spurs vs Newcastle, Juventus vs Napoli, and the derby between Freiburg and Stuttgart (it’s big to me!).
November 11th: Strictly for the hipsters—St. Pauli against Energie Cortbus or FA Cup action between Shortwood United and Port Vale.
November 12th: In Brazil, Sao Paulo take on Flamengo and in WC Qualifying, Mexico stares down the abyss against the Kiwis while Uruguay yawn as they try to get the adrenaline up for their game against Jordan.
November 14th: Belgium and Colombia face off in a friendly between trendy WC title picks.
November 15th: Euro WC Qualifying playoffs first leg games. Go Iceland! The USA FREAKING A pummels Scotland that night.
November 16th: CAF WC playoffs. Ivory Coast and Nigeria look set to punch their tickets.
November 17th: Cameroon vs Tunisia for a place in the WC. 0-0 after the first leg, so it’s anyone’s game.
November 19th: Second leg of the Euro WC qualifiers. Burkina Faso look to qualify for their first ever WC if they can hold their lead against Algeria. The US FREAKING A takes on Austria and England renews their friendship with Germany. Awww, that’s nice.
November 20th: The second leg of NZ and Mexico live from New Zealand! Go All Whites even though that nickname sounds massively racist.
November 23rd: The Merseyside Derby features along with Borussia Dortmund hosting Bayern Munich. Two steaming bowls of hatred for you there.
November 24th: Man City vs Tottenham is the big one. There are some classic matchups in Brazil, if that’s your thing.
November 26th: More Champions League with Napoli and Dortmund looking like the key game.
November 27th: CL group stages continue featuring Man U vs Bayer Leverkusen
November 28th: Europa continues with Swansea City vs Valencia or Real Betis vs Lyon the best looking games. Spurs play the husk of Anzhi at the Lane.
