Mets playoff watch: Where they stand in postseason race | Newsday

Can the Mets hold on with this ragtag bunch?

With 13 games left on their schedule, the Mets (80-69) moved one game ahead of the San Francisco Giants at the top of the NL Wild Card standings with a 3-2 win over the Twins. The St. Louis Cardinals sit in third place, two games behind the Mets after a 3-0 win over the Giants on Sunday.

Terry Collins’ strategical blunder costs Mets — and hurts Flores | New York Post

What was the bench coach doing?

You could see the pain in Terry Collins’ eyes.

This loss was on him and he knew it. And as soon as the 4-3, 10-inning loss to the Braves was complete Saturday night at Turner Field, Collins fell on his sword.

He blew it.

He did not pinch run with two outs in the eighth inning and Wilmer Flores on second base after Flores crashed a ball near the top of the center-field fence for a double.

The Mets roster is bulging with players in September, and Collins did not use a pinch-runner for Flores. He picked the right pinch hitter in T.J. Rivera, who replaced Kelly Johnson, but he was one step slow on the pinch runner for the slow-footed Flores.

And it cost the Mets dearly.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins taken to hospital before Sunday game

New York Mets manager Terry Collins will remain hospitalized overnight in Milwaukee after requiring medical attention less than 30 minutes before Sunday’s first pitch against the Brewers.

Collins complained of feeling ill, but had improved by the time he departed Miller Park for Froedtert Hospital, assistant general manager John Ricco said.

The 67-year-old Collins, the oldest manager in the majors, departed the clubhouse without requiring assistance.
