Terry Francona undergoes heart procedure, out for All-Star Game

Cleveland Indians skipper Terry Francona will not manage in the All-Star Game after undergoing a heart procedure on Thursday, the team announced.

Francona underwent a cardiac ablation procedure for an irregular heartbeat, the Indians said in a statement, and is resting at the Cleveland Clinic.

“Terry is expected to make a full recovery and will be discharged within the next day or two,” the Indians said. “It is expected he will resume managing the team beginning Friday, July 14 and Major League Baseball has been informed he will not manage the All-Star Game in Miami.”

Get well soon, Tito.

Indians manager Terry Francona leaves game after not feeling well

Indians manager Terry Francona left Cleveland’s 15-9 win over the Texas Rangers on Monday night because he wasn’t feeling well.

He was evaluated by the medical staff and checked out “fine,” the team said, but he did not return to the game.

The team said he experienced symptoms similar to those he had during a game earlier this season. Francona was hospitalized on June 13 following a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Progressive Field. He underwent a battery of tests and was released a few hours later. He returned to work the following night.

MLB investigating Dodgers for alleged discrimination in termination of war veteran Nick Francona

Major League Baseball is investigating whether the Los Angeles Dodgers discriminated against Nick Francona, an Afghanistan war veteran and son of Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona, when his contract was terminated last year, sources familiar with the matter told Yahoo Sports.

Francona, 31, told MLB in a letter he believed the Dodgers gradually pushed him out of his job as assistant director of player development following his decision to seek an assessment at Home Base, a Boston-area organization dedicated to helping veterans treat so-called invisible wounds of war. MLB’s Department of Investigations launched an inquiry into the matter, during which the Dodgers denied that Francona’s service served as motivation for the end of his employment in March 2016. The investigation is expected to be completed within a week, according to sources.

It followed months of private negotiations during which the Dodgers said they conducted their own investigation and offered a pair of settlements — the first in June 2016 for $40,000 and the second in November 2016 for $150,000. Francona rejected both and has not taken legal action.
