Angels’ Simmons sprains ankle; X-rays negative on Ohtani’s hand

Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons left Los Angeles’ Monday night game against the Minnesota Twins in Anaheim, Calif., due to a left ankle injury in the eighth inning.

Los Angeles manager Brad Ausmus said that X-rays were negative, but Simmons was diagnosed with a sprained ankle. An MRI exam is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.

Simmons was trying to beat out a grounder into the hole between first and second when he landed awkwardly while stretching for the first base bag and then tumbled to the ground. He had to be helped off the field and couldn’t put any pressure on the ankle.

Do you suppose Mike Trout has any regrets?

‘Give us a chance’: Marlins make plea to fans entering 2019

MIAMI — The outfield grass at Marlins Park was a worn-out mess on Saturday, with those who arrived for the team’s annual FanFest being greeted by signs reminding them that the turf will be replaced soon.

When it comes to the Marlins, many things are a work in progress.

Wearing new uniforms with the rebranded team logo, in a stadium that has gotten spruced-up since last season ended, some of the 2019 Miami Marlins gathered for the first time to greet fans and start hyping the new season. Pitchers and catchers report to the team’s spring training home in Jupiter on Wednesday.

All three of the Marlins’ remaining fans are sorry that they have reached this state.
