Tim Lincecum Newsbeat

Angels: Tim Lincecum was designated for assignment on Saturday, bringing into question the professional future for the former Giants two-time Cy Young Award winner. The Angels made the move a day after Lincecum allowed six runs in the first inning of a 6-4 loss to Seattle. Lincecum is 2-6 with a 9.16 ERA in nine starts in his return from left hip surgery last September. Lincecum signed a $2.5 million, one-year contract with the Angels in May. Manager Mike Scioscia said the Angels are hopeful that Lincecum will accept an assignment to Triple-A.

Not a good second start for the Freak.
Sunday, June 19, 2016
The Freak is back with the freak turned low.
In the sixth inning, Lincecum clapped for his teammates when they turned a quick double play behind him. Lowrie lined his next pitch into left field, Robinson secured it, and fans again stood up to commend Lincecum on his performance.
His day was done. To use his favored idiom for fastball velocity, he did not pump any cheese, but he induced the kind of weak contact he could not in recent seasons for San Francisco.
“I’ve tried to scratch what’s been going on the last few years and tried to move on,” Lincecum said. “I’ve tried not to dwell on the past. I had some success in the last four years and a lot of not. So, I’m trying to let that go and move on to wherever I’m at right now.”

“I think he threw the ball fine,” said Bud Black, the Angels’ special assistant to the general manager. “You could tell he might have been a little rusty the first innings but he looked good physically. The hip injury didn’t seem to be an issue and his arm motion looked the same. He was throwing 90 miles and his secondary pitches looked fine. He just needs to build some stamina.”

Will he end up back in San Francisco?
“Where I end up is where I’ll end up,” Lincecum said. “They already have six starters. I’ve got to just look out for me, and if they’re the No. 1 piece in the puzzle when it comes down to decision time, I’ll be excited to go back.”

Is it really going to happen?
Lincecum will host his long-awaited showcase in Arizona on Friday, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. At least two-thirds of the major-league teams are expected to attend.

Lincecum, 31, is expected to pitch in a showcase in Scottsdale or Tempe “sometime in the next two weeks,” Thurman said.
The showcase, which could be attended by all 30 clubs, was originally scheduled for mid-January, but it has been pushed back a number of times.
“He’s really been focusing on getting ready for the season and preparing for the season,” Thurman said. “This is really like his spring training right now. As soon as he’s ready, we’ll have a showcase. ... He’s healthy right now. He’s doing all the same things that pitchers that are already signed with clubs are. He’s in the same spot. He’s building up his arm strength so that when he actually goes and does a showcase he’s going to be game-ready.”
