Padres honor Yangervis Solarte’s late wife during loss to Rockies

Adam Rosales knew the ball was going out, and he knew how to celebrate the home run—with a tribute to his mourning teammate.

Rosales’ homer in the second inning was a small highlight in an otherwise tough day for San Diego. The Padres played with heavy hearts a day after Yangervis Solarte lost his wife, Yuliett, to cancer.

The 6-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday was the least of their worries….

Rosales paid tribute to his teammate with a jump and a clap at home plate after his homer, mimicking Solarte’s home run celebration.

MLBTR: Five MLB Players Enter Into Brand Contracts With Fantex

Fantex, Inc. announced today that it has entered into brand contracts with five Major Leaguers: Phillies third baseman Maikel Franco, Astros right-hander Collin McHugh, Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop, Twins right-hander Tyler Duffey and Padres third baseman Yangervis Solarte (as noted on

Fantex offers professional athletes an up-front, one-time payment in exchange for a portion of that player’s future earnings both on and off the field. Fantex then sells “shares” of that player to public investors for a set price (thus covering the up-front payment to the player), allowing those investors to turn a profit if said player crosses a certain threshold in his career earnings.

A few days late, but I found it to be interesting.  My guess is Solarte comes out ahead in this and Franco makes Fantex rich.
