Norris to Orioles. I'm telling you, the Orioles are going to have the best rotation of number 3 starters in history!

Sources: #Orioles agree to acquire Norris from #Astros for Hoes and another piece. Finalizing now.

If you're getting Hoes, asking for "another piece" usually costs extra.

Gangsta.

So Jarrod Dyson is officially relegated to pinch runner. 16 SBs and 17 runs in 87 ABs. Would love to see what he could do with 300-400 ABs. Oh well...

La Stella long term... Why does no one like him much? He has hit great all through the minors, but the Braves do not have anyone in MLB's top 100 at mid-season, and La Stella is our 13th best prospect (so how far down would that put him-200+?) He is not on anyone elses top 100, and not in MLB's top 10 2B prospects, either. There must be something someone sees (or does not see) in him, to think he cannot play well in MLB, and it cannot be a lack of performance.

He's 5'10" 195 lbs, now, I haven't seen him in person so I can't really talk to his body type, but that doesn't look like an MLB player. He's 24 at AA. There's just not much projection there, his skills are probably close to where they will always be. He could contribute at the MLB level, but he's hardly exiting.

Interrupting this extraordinarily boring non-trade day with an actual game chatter; I think I just felt something akin to pity for Nats fans. It felt wrong.

Go read some random JoeyB posts, that will change how you feel.

What kind of 3rd base coach holds Alex Avila at 3rd to ruin Torii's Cycle?
   211. bigglou115 Posted: July 31, 2013 at 03:43 PM (#4509407)
Rumors of Utley to Dodgers, good for the Phillies if true.
   212. boteman Posted: July 31, 2013 at 03:43 PM (#4509409)
Torii Hunter is officially a dumb a$$.

edit: OK, my head is not really in this ###### up game. I guess with a bazillion run lead he could have run the bases backwards and then forwards again just for entertainment value. But Jean Segura already did that. nvm.

edit2: I wish somebody would pity me.

edit3: I am now rooting for Los Piratas de la Gordita!!
   213. eddieot Posted: July 31, 2013 at 03:45 PM (#4509412)
Joe Sheehan ?@joe_sheehan 4m

Probably not the first time someone's traded Bud for Hoes.
   214. fran Posted: July 31, 2013 at 03:47 PM (#4509415)
Oh come on boteman, they didn't need Torii at 2nd base.

The Royals are only 5 games behind in the Wild Card.

Norris to Orioles. I'm telling you, the Orioles are going to have the best rotation of number 3 starters in history!

This was my exact thought. It gives the Orioles incredible depth of mid-rotation (#3ish) types.

Thanks for that scouting report, Mr. Sartre.

My rooting preferences will be as follows since the Nats seem to be out of it:

1. A's
2. O's
3. Pirates
4. Reds

Torii Hunter needs a triple for the cycle.

Torii Hunter needs a triple for the cycle.

So, if you hit a HR, are you allowed to just stay on 3B and take the triple? Can you run off the field after passing 3B?
   221. fran Posted: July 31, 2013 at 03:55 PM (#4509428)
LAEHoA -- He was trying to get it but got thrown out at 2nd when Avila didn't try to go home on the double/triple. I don't think he'll be up again.
   222. boteman Posted: July 31, 2013 at 03:55 PM (#4509430)
Torii Hunter needs a triple for the cycle.

That's what he was trying for when he passed 2B, THEN looked up at the 3B coach, slammed on the brakes, and retreated to 2B only to be tagged out.

See post #212.
   223. Dan Posted: July 31, 2013 at 03:56 PM (#4509432)
Giving up a draft pick to get Norris seems like an overpay to me, even if the 2 minor leaguers also in the deal are nothing special. Hader seems like a pretty interesting A-ball arm though too.
   224. bigglou115 Posted: July 31, 2013 at 03:58 PM (#4509435)
Thanks for that scouting report, Mr. Sartre.

Wait? Did that come of angsty? I guess I could have provided "I like him better than Pastornicki there long term," or "I said similar things about Prado though, so what do I know?"

I wonder if this will help garner momentum for eliminating the waiver/non-waiver distinction and moving the deadline to 31 August. Which should happen.

This is why I continue to lobby Jim to build in a feature where every page random generates a post of some canned technobabble or maybe just some meaningless code snippets. The deadline's going to need to move back, because the WC2 is only an intermediate stage before they move to the NFL's playoff system (twelve teams/four byes).

I hope not, and I don't really see it either. You'd almost have to realign to 4 divisions so you could keep 2 WC teams. That doesn't seem close to me.

What small amount of near empathy I felt for Nats fans was due to the recent pleasures provided by Eso and boteman as they wailed publicly to no avail. I went and looked a picture of Bryce Harper's hair and fixed the problem quickly enough. No need to bring Joey out of his cave of despair and shame. It's where he belongs.

It depends. Are we breaking down the starters by fifths? Like, are the pitchers in the best fifth all #1 starters? Or is it by the typical baseball definition?

If the latter I'd rather have 1-2-3-4-5, the drop off from 1-3 is much greater than the drop off from 3-5.

It's okay, Sam, and thanks for the moment of sympathy (that now shames you). I'm over it, though. The season's done. I'll never stop being a Nats fan, but I've had my last tenuous ties to any hope for the 2013 postseason truly severed, which in a way just frees me to root for the "good storylines" in MLB 2013. Like the Pirates, or the O's, or that upcoming tragic midair collision between the Braves and Cardinals team planes that leaves no survivors, no, no, not even a single one.

I have not really rooted for anything in MLB this year, the Mets blew coming in and my Roto team imploded right out the box...

IF the Cardinal team plane were to crash, I feel pretty certain that the Cubs -- or maybe more accurately, Rizzo, Castro, and all the Cubs prospects -- would be on board because the Cubs team plane had mechanical problems and the Cardinals loaned theirs out.

That is the way the universe seems to deal with the Cardinals.... and spare me the '85 WS - exception that proves the rule... sometimes karma blinks and misses things.

Chris Young has been a massive disappointment. MASSIVE. And he's the club's biggest earner.

After going to BB-ref to find out what team Chris Young is on, I agree wholeheartedly.

He does look good in the uniform. He could probably sell jeans.

He was a acquired for Cliff Pennington though, so you can't be too upset.

The sun is catching Coco Crisp's batting helmet in such a way it looks like he is about to shoot a laser beam from his A's logo.

Yeah, I was figuring he'd be a big help if Haren didn't work out.

Oh, wait.

Is there something wrong with Ian Kennedy that suggests this is not just an off year? He didn't seem to go for much.

Is there anything that suggests that Ian Kennedy is anything more than a mediocre pitcher who had one really good year.
