Rex Hudler Favored For Royals TV Broadcast

according to chatter, Rex Hudler is favored to fill Frank White‘s color commentary role. Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star suggests the same, though the other finalist is George Frazier, currently of the Rockies broadcast team.

He is familiar with the Kansas City Airport so I guess that is a local tie.

This can't even start well.

Man..it's bad enough being a Royals fan. This should be against the Geneva Conventions or something.

Makes this Nats fan happy we have F.P. Santangelo.

Wow. I didn't care for White but at least he wasn't an obnoxious twit.

Hudler has always been a HUUUUUUUUGE Royals fan!

I loved Hud as a player. One of my favorite ballplayers ever.

But we'd all be better off if he didn't broadcast baseball games.

Sweet zombie Jesus. It's tough enough being a Royals fan, now I might have to deal with this? I hope mlb.tv will be offering free radio broadcasts again, because I don't think I have the stomach for daily Rex Hudler.

I'm most curious about the other finalist being George Frazier. How often is a color guy interviewing for the same position with another team? Frazier played for the Cardinals at the start of his career and is from Oklahoma, so maybe KC is a little more like home to him. If it isn't that, wth?

Ouch.

I'll admit I've only heard Rex do a half dozen games, but he seems terrible.

But it makes sense though if you are trying to get away from Frank White. White is thoughtful, truthful, and not terribly polished. And Rex is from the tradition of Santo. I'm not sure how that plays when you aren't a long time member of the organization.

Exactly. There's no point to lateral changes. You replace a Billy Martin with a Bob Lemon.

If the Three Tenors had wanted to continue after Luciano Pavarotti's death, they should have brought in Flavor-Flav.

As someone who's been subjected to Frazier on Rockies telecasts for many years, let me just say that I'd really be happy if he got the KC job. Seems like a nice guy, but a truly awful announcer.

I was stuck with Rex for many years out here, my condolences to Royals fans.

Is there any chance Hudler would be tolerable if paired with someone a little more...thoughtful? I watched a lot of Angels games on satellite TV and it seemed that moron Physioc did everything he could to draw the worst out of Hudler.

He doesn't know a thing about sabermetrics and will give some of the most naive and inane opinions you've ever heard. He is loud and obnoxious. You'll feel like you're listening to a ten-year-old. He's more suited to be a cheerleader. Sorry, but I can't say anything nice about him as a color guy. He's the worst ever; Santo was nowhere near as bad.

Yes, yes, yes. Hudler has an absolute wealth of baseball anecdotes and is a natural oral storyteller. Unfortunately, with the Angels, he was paired with the insufferable Physioc and was told to act the clown and consummate homer.
