I did not enjoy watching that in slow motion.

Great defensive play by the Cardinals there. Getting Napoli hurt there has to reduce the Rangers' run expectancy more than any out ever could.

I do believe we might have just seen a Conradian and a Posadaesque at the same time.

Oh, ow... the leg is NOT supposed to turn like that.
   211. cardsfanboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:17 AM (#3977546)
looks like it's going to be ok... I cringed watching that replay.(not because of Salas throw)

Two horrible errors now this inning. If the Cardinals pull out this series, it'll almost be a miracle considering the way they've played.
   213. salvomania Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:17 AM (#3977548)
When did Holliday become an adventure in the OF?

I didn't watch him that closely as a Rockie, and I remember he had a decent reputation when he came to the Cardinals...

But having watched about 98% of his cardinal games, he's looked shaky since day 1... he's awkward chasing balls, takes weird routes, mis-times his jumps, and has trouble, seemingly, with his depth perception. In short, he's not a good left fielder.

Not seeing any other Game 6 walkoff homers - there were walkoff wins in 1971 and 1935, but not on homers.

Also, on behalf of Napoli: Ow.

So, the baserunners are a catcher with a sprained ankle and an AL pitcher. I'm rooting for a gapper.
   220. MM1f Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:19 AM (#3977555)
Yeah, that ankle is ###### for today and tomorrow. It might not be a long-term issue, but I have busted my ankle like that a time or three and it has kept me off my feet for a few weeks.

Is the ankle hurt his back or front foot when hitting? If it's his back foot, goodbye power.

I don't know MM1f, I've seen ankles do weird stuff and be fine. I've seen them completely blow out without it looking bad when it happened. he might be better off as a catcher, it'll force him to keep it loose.

   227. Ray (RDP) Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:22 AM (#3977562)
Napoli is so hoping for back-to-back walks here.

That was a sweet little tango there by Holliday.

he's awkward chasing balls, takes weird routes

Holy crap, did you see Holliday make that 3rd out catch? He did a pirouette on his way back to make the catch. Exciting, if nothing else.
   231. bunyon Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:23 AM (#3977566)
Berkman/Napoli footraces are why games are so much longer today.

Not a "brand new" ad, but did Brian Wilson only recently get himself inserted into the Stand^4Cancer thing? I completely missed him the first eleventy-billion times I saw it.
   233. cardsfanboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:24 AM (#3977568)

He has a decent statistical reputation, but his actual quality isn't what any casual fan would call good or average. The problem is the average fielder in left is a poor fielder by the eyes(same to some extent with right) teams are willing to punt a lot on defense for the offense, especially in the NL(I imagine).
   234. bunyon Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:24 AM (#3977569)
Holliday was probably just making sure no one was throwing anything at him again.

Speaking of, I wasn't on chatter when that happened, but how did the fan miss? he was 40 feet away. Sheesh.

[ xx] Berkman continues to build MVP case
   240. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3977576)
Good call by Seven of Nine there. At first I could have sworn he was out, but the replay shows the ump did the Right Thing.
   241. cardsfanboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3977577)
The call went my way, and it might have been right, but I find it hard to believe that the ump had the right angle on that play to make that call.
   242. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3977578)
Can Young help at ALL?
   243. Gamingboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:27 AM (#3977579)
Holliday, uh, shouldprobably try to redeem himself here.

Not a "brand new" ad, but did Brian Wilson only recently get himself inserted into the Stand^4Cancer thing? I completely missed him the first eleventy-billion times I saw it.

First time I've seen Wilson too.

They're winning but it feels like the Rangers are going to regret not having more to show out of these first four innings.
   245. Christopher Linden Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:28 AM (#3977582)
#238, no, but you sure as hell run on him.

[X] Infra-red
   247. Fred Lynn Nolan Ryan Sweeney Agonistes Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:28 AM (#3977584)
How the heck was that an error on Young? Lewis missed the bag, and that's why the runner was safe.
   248. cardsfanboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:28 AM (#3977585)
The Rangers just don't want to take the Cardinals gift run, or at least they want to keep the game interesting a little longer.

[ x] IR cam has definitive look
   250. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:28 AM (#3977587)
I'm going to concede defeat and admit that the infrared feature has been pretty cool so far.

Ron should not sit on his bullpen
   252. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:29 AM (#3977589)
Wait, did the infra-red camera just show itself to have a use? I'm so confused.

Not a "brand new" ad, but did Brian Wilson only recently get himself inserted into the Stand^4Cancer thing? I completely missed him the first eleventy-billion times I saw it.

You probably missed Wilson behind all the really fat people.
   254. cardsfanboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:29 AM (#3977591)
was it an error on Young, or was that just Buck being Buck?(or McCarver being McCarver)

Not a "brand new" ad, but did Brian Wilson only recently get himself inserted into the Stand^4Cancer thing? I completely missed him the first eleventy-billion times I saw it.

It's because he's BLACK OPS.

Wait, did the infra-red camera just show itself to have a use? I'm so confused.

It was used well the first game they had it, when it showed that Adrian Beltre fouled a ball off of his foot.
   257. Christopher Linden Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977594)
I concede nothing. I don't care if it showed me a secret cache of treasure. IR camera sucks

Jesus Christ.

Cardinals' fielding "prowess" contagious.

The IR rocks.
   261. Gamingboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977598)
Lucky bounce for the Rangers there, otherwise Berkman would have scored.
   262. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977599)
Great slide.
   263. AJMcCringleberry Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977600)
Nice job by Holliday.
   264. Esmailyn Gonzalez Sr. Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977601)
Best takeout slide ever. Holliday for MVP.
   265. PreservedFish Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977602)
I know that that type of slide is considered OK by baseball standards, but that's ####### bullshit.
   266. Sunday silence Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977603)
is that legal by Holliday?
   267. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977604)
Boy, how was that not interference on Holliday? Didn't look like he could get the base after his slide.
   268. Lassus Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977605)
Jesus, at least try and hit the damned base with your hand or something.
   269. cardsfanboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977606)
agree with 260... the IR rocks.
   270. PeteF3 Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977607)
That really looked like baserunner interference to me.
   271. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977608)
Yeah, that's true. Infra-red is going to be good for tag plays, too.

That's a hell of a takeout slide.
   272. Christopher Linden Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:30 AM (#3977609)
fantastic slide by Holliday

   275. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:31 AM (#3977612)
Holliday could reach the bag with his left hand, and I don't think he entirely overslid the base.
   276. Dale H. Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:31 AM (#3977613)
The infrared camera simply proves that if the lights were out in the stadium he would have been safe, too.

Why didn't we see an IR view of Napoli's swelling ankle?
   277. JE (Jason Epstein) Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:31 AM (#3977614)
Molina gets to show off his clutchy clutch hitting.

Boy, how was that not interference on Holliday? Didn't look like he could get the base after his slide.

No, he could, he just didn't. Could have easily reached his arm out, but was too afraid he'd be hurt by his owned play.
   279. Christopher Linden Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:32 AM (#3977616)
"Gotta reach the base" hasn't been called 10 times in 100 years. Great slide by Halliday. Good baseball.
   280. Davo Dozier Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:32 AM (#3977617)
That's interference on Holliday, all day and twice on Sundays.

Speaking of, I wasn't on chatter when that happened, but how did the fan miss? he was 40 feet away. Sheesh

that kid most likely pulled his punch. He was not really looking at the LF IIRC. He simply tossed a few feet clearo of the fence where no one was.. . I thnk the kid might have had second thoughts at the moment of truth
   283. cardsfanboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:33 AM (#3977620)
I'm usually all gung ho for stringing up extreme take out slides, and I am of course Cardinal bias, but I didn't see anything wrong with that slide.
   284. Guapo Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:33 AM (#3977621)
Somebody needs to get drilled in response to that slide.
   285. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:34 AM (#3977623)
Interference?

Nonsense. The rule is can the runner touch the base. He could have

   293. Christopher Linden Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:35 AM (#3977632)
Not in a WS elimination game. Holliday might get buzzed, but Cards are in no position to give up a baserunner on retaliation.
   294. cardsfanboy Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:35 AM (#3977633)
great use of the running game... there is no way that a double play would have happened on that particular bounce, but if the ball hits the ground a foot sooner, without running it's an easy double play.
   295. The elusive Robert Denby Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:35 AM (#3977634)
No Tim, I'm pretty sure that's a double play if Freese isn't running.
   296. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:35 AM (#3977635)
I don't think Hollidays slide was "dirty", just thought it was in violation of the rule.
