I buy the argument that slides like that SHOULD be illegal.

BUT, they aren't. And slides much worse than that happen 50 times a week in season. You guys need to get your noses out of the statscomputer thingy.

Interference?

Nonsense. The rule is can the runner touch the base. He could have

I don't think this is the rule. It's the way it's applied, but I don't think it's the rule. I think the rule only says something impeding the fielder.

I don't think Hollidays slide was "dirty", just thought it was in violation of the rule.

The rule has almost never been enforced.

Nick Punto has developed a signature move in this World Series: thinking about breaking his bat in frustration, and then sadly realizing that he is not strong enough to do it.

Completely different actions. A guy who can play 2b, SS, 3b should certainly be able to learn 1b but it takes time. You do things backwards.

"Conradian" has to be retired after tonight's game, right? This has reached new depths.
   350. bunyon Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:44 AM (#3977690)
337: Are you implying Hamilton should have been at second? Because if you are, you're crazy.
   351. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:44 AM (#3977691)
Rangers just need to break this sucker open. They're getting a ton of opportunities.
   352. salvomania Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:44 AM (#3977692)
Do the Cardinals have any sense that they're playing AN ELIMINATION GAME IN THE WORLD SERIES?????

So...put the batter-runner out, then bobble the ball???

That Freese drop also adversely affected my marriage. My wife was talking to me about something and then I yelled "HE DROPPED IT!". She correctly surmised I wasn't listening to her and stormed off.

So thanks a lot, Freese.

Rule 7.08b specifically calls our the runner having contact with the base and hence no interference

The umps interpret this as having the ability to make contact versus having physical contact

The quality of play for what is supposed to be the game's showcase event with the best teams and players involved is becoming embarrassing.

Players in Japan, Cuba, and Korea must be watching this and saying "World" Series my ass.

This team is punishing every fan who didn't condemn them mid-season.

This must be what it was like for Tigers fans in 2006.

I keep promising my girlfriend that I'll stop scaring the sh!t out of her and the cat but then the Cardinals keep making little league errors...

Why is Salas still pitching? The bullpen phone broken again? I realize that there's been errors, but there's also been several well struck balls.

So...put the batter-runner out, then bobble the ball???

Hahaha, fair enough.
Still, playing first is hard and weird if you're not used to it. Especially if you're used to the middle IF.

You guys calling this embarrassing evidently didn't watch the 1993 World Series.

I think there was a secret deal between MLB and the MLBPA to cancel the 94 series just to avoid such an embarrassing spectacle.

Doesn't apply -- the rule for this is 7.09e as this is the one that puts the other runner out.

Come on, three of the 10 batters he's faced have reached on errors, none of which have been hard-hit balls, he's struck out 2 and napoli's hit bounced off the chalk...

#372: Best thing about those games for a non-Boston fan was McCarver's reaction. He sounded positively offended that a team could play that way and win a World Series game. It was almost a morality thing for him.

I read this in the voice of the Indians "Valbuena, Valbuena, Valbuena" television ranter. It made this inning feel a bit better.

   393. JJ1986 Posted: October 28, 2011 at 01:51 AM (#3977734)
David Murphy is just not a very good hitter. Endy Chavez is a better option here since he's a better defender.

I think there was a secret deal between MLB and the MLBPA to cancel the 94 series just to avoid such an embarrassing spectacle.

Hey now! I was never an Expos fan, but I think it truly stinks that the strike killed their one and only chance to play in the post-season. MLB Network had a retrospective the other night that rubbed salt in that wound.

Of course, I'm hoping the Nationals will correct this situation no later than 2020.
