"The 6th tool is being able to play in New York" caused me to shout "what the ####?!?" at my TV Screen.

TAKE THAT AL!
   103. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:23 PM (#4179117)
Well, that was quick.
   104. Yonder Alonso in misguided trousers (cardinal) Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:23 PM (#4179118)
101: Yeah, that was ridiculous. The whole playing-for-the-Yankees mystique just makes me angry.

'course, I'm a Mets fan, so.

but maybe that has gone away in golf. been a while

Thanks. Not sure. Played forever, never took a lesson, that sort. The thing in baseball seems weird.
   107. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:24 PM (#4179121)
Verlander is dating Kate Upton?

Way better than the Cy Young and MVP.
   108. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:24 PM (#4179122)
that hit reminded me of someone hitting a triple off nolan ryan to get an all star game started.
   109. The elusive Robert Denby Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:25 PM (#4179123)
I wouldn't have guessed Joey Votto was such a big "Frasier" fan.
   110. boteman Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:25 PM (#4179124)
One way to make this fun exhibition game even better is to put natural sound on the S.A.P. channel.

Oh, I just checked it's unintelligble muffled Spanish, I think. The audio is so muddy they could just as soon do without it. The fans have spoken!
   111. Guts Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4179126)
Beltran has seen that AB before...
   112. PreservedFish Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4179127)
Chapman is going to hit 103 on this gun. And Dickey might hit 85!
   113. Lassus Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:26 PM (#4179128)
One way to make this fun exhibition game even better is to put natural sound on the S.A.P. channel.

In case anyone didn't know, you can watch entire games with natural sound on mlb.com.
   114. Guts Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4179129)
Verlander just hit 100 on FOX's radar.

And apparently has been the entire time! I guess I should stop Googling his personal life and watch the game.
   115. boteman Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4179130)
Beltran is mic'ed up.
   116. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4179131)
fox has such a fake speed gun. it's a joke. another five years and strasburg will be throwing 110 in an all star game
   117. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:27 PM (#4179132)
Verlander just hit 100 on FOX's radar.

   118. BWV 1129 Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4179134)
Thanks to Harvey for letting me know that Verlander is now my mortal foe.
   119. PreservedFish Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4179135)
McGwire is in the dugout. They didn't show any replays of his bombs over Fenway, IMO the coolest homerun derby moment ever.
   120. Guts Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:29 PM (#4179136)
This is the same speech Chipper gave to Erin Andrews.
   121. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179137)
Chipper ain't exactly Cicero.
   122. Lassus Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179139)
Verlander really elevating everything.
   123. Good cripple hitter Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179140)
It's unfortunate that they broadcast Chipper Jones' boring pregame speech, but Ichiro's profanity-laden tirades that inspired the AL to dominate the AS game aren't available anywhere.
   124. Dan Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179141)
Harveys is the last person who I would've expected to derail this thread to Kate Upton.

But speaking of her, she has such a weird (not in a good way) body that it surprises me she's so popular. She has nice breasts, but he has no waist, hips, or butt.
   125. The elusive Robert Denby Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179142)
"Get back in the dugout."
   126. The Yankee Clapper Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179143)
Ichiro gives a much better pre-game pep talk.
   127. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179144)
Mike Maddux is probably saying: "Dude, you're Justin Verlander. Pitch like it."

(George Brett [X])
   128. Guts Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179145)
Thanks to Harvey for letting me know that Verlander is now my mortal foe.

For the record, Gamingboy brought this up last night and the evidence is pretty weak. Looks mostly like speculation and TMZ wishcasting.

EDIT - Even if it's true, she's probably dumping him after this inning.
   129. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:30 PM (#4179146)
bwv

i think my grandson just saw the chance to send me an obnoxious gif
   130. boteman Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:31 PM (#4179147)
This Verlander kid sucks!
   131. BWV 1129 Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:31 PM (#4179148)
Thanks to Guts for letting me know that Verlander is now just some great pitcher.
   132. The elusive Robert Denby Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:31 PM (#4179149)
I don't know about the Verlander kid...
   133. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:32 PM (#4179150)
if i was sitting next to george brett at an all star game i think i would do better than talk on my stupid phone
   134. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:32 PM (#4179152)

For the record, Gamingboy brought this up last night and the evidence is pretty weak. Looks mostly like speculation, and probably TMZ wishcasting.

Yeah, it sounded more like two famous people hanging out than anything. With Frank Viola's son thrown in.
   135. BWV 1129 Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:32 PM (#4179153)
Harvey, you have a very different definition of "obnoxious" than I do.
   136. PreservedFish Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4179154)
Obviously, that would've been out if Wright was in the lineup.
   137. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4179155)
Wright would've hit a homer.
   138. The elusive Robert Denby Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4179156)
Hell, Luke Hochevar could give up four first inning runs.
   139. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4179157)
i would have thought a guy from canada could play hockey goalie and corral that ball off the wall.
   140. Brian C Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4179159)
Remember when Clemens got rocked in the first inning of the ASG several years back? This is like that.
   141. Dan Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4179160)
if i was sitting next to george brett at an all star game i think i would do better than talk on my stupid phone

No, but he'd probably be talking on his phone to avoid you.
   142. Lassus Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4179161)
HA!

I have to admit, Wright probably wouldn't have done as well against Verlander.
   143. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:33 PM (#4179162)
i think my grandson just saw the chance to send me an obnoxious gif

Obnoxious is not the word I'd use.
   144. The Kentucky Gentleman, Mark Edward Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4179163)

Sale should've started. Verlander blows.
   145. Ned Garvin: Male Prostitute Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4179164)
Sandoval hits a 3B [X]

Am I doing this right? :-)
   146. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4179165)
Okay, so clearly the Giants fans knew something we didn't.
   147. Dan Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4179166)
Thanks for ####, Verlander.
   148. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4179167)
Dear god, the NL is going to win like 11 straight, aren't they?
   149. boteman Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4179168)
Man, this Jeter kid sucks!
   150. PreservedFish Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4179169)
THE JUMP! THE JUMP! If that's not on the checklist, the whole thing is invalidated.
   151. The District Attorney Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:34 PM (#4179170)
Neil deGrasse Tyson @neiltyson

Baseball should track extraordinary plays that fielders can bank, and then credit against errors they might later commit.
   152. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4179171)
that guy at short is 38 and darn he almost made that play
   153. Dan Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4179172)
Fielder doesn't pick those throws, Jetes.
   154. Lassus Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4179173)
GUFFAW

You know, that was actually Fielder's fault. It wasn't a hard bounce. If Keith is watching, he just spit.
   155. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4179174)
This is... irregular.
   156. Ned Garvin: Male Prostitute Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4179175)
That took a funny bounce on Fielder.
   157. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4179176)
Good hitting beats good pitching.
   158. Guts Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:35 PM (#4179177)
LaRussa should have started Chris Sale.
   159. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:36 PM (#4179178)
dan

george brett knows baseball, tells great stories and like a good joke

we would be just fine
   160. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:36 PM (#4179179)
That sound you hear is millions of people changing the channel thinking this game is over.
   161. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:36 PM (#4179180)
Who the hell is Ryan Cook?

That's wwhat you wewere saying about Andrew w Baileyey three years agog, and now look at him.
   162. Dan Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:37 PM (#4179181)
Baseball should track extraordinary plays that fielders can bank, and then credit against errors they might later commit.

Yeah, they could add and subtract them for a number of plays above average. Maybe call it something like Plus/Minus. And then they could convert it to runs, and call it Defensive Runs Saved.

But they'd probably #### everything up when it came to accounting for defensive shifts...
   163. boteman Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:37 PM (#4179182)
This is yet another data point in my ongoing theory that some of the best pitchers struggle in the first before they settle down. Now, that doesn't do much good in an All-Star Game when you only pitch for mabye one inning, but still...
   164. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:38 PM (#4179184)
bote

ongoing theory? that has been understood about baseball for a 100 years

or am i missing an inside joke?
   165. PreservedFish Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:38 PM (#4179185)
How many games would one of these All-Star teams win if it really existed?
   166. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:39 PM (#4179186)
I worry somebody might try to assassinate Cano this inning.
   167. Greg Franklin Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:39 PM (#4179187)
I wish we had another look at the Fox Box on the Kung Fu Panda hit. The curve was up but it really bit, and it looks as if he golfed it when it was out of the zone.

Now is the time for Wash to deploy his 17-man bullpen. Verlander just didn't have it.
   168. AJMcCringleberry Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:39 PM (#4179188)
That's wwhat you wewere saying about Andrew w Baileyey three years agog, and now look at him.

I think Crispix had a stroke.
   169. Lassus Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:39 PM (#4179189)
I hope Larussa leaves Dickey in for innings 3-8 to blank the AL.
   170. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4179191)
I'm basically a Kansas Citian. I'm fond of Kansas City. I'm fond of the Royals.

And I think it would be hilarious if Billy Butler didn't make it into the game.
   171. Guts Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4179192)
Posey is having problems catching Cain, he may not survive Dickey.
   172. villageidiom Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179193)
This is yet another data point in my ongoing theory that some of the best pitchers struggle in the first before they settle down.
Some of the best pitchers make up the entire Red Sox rotation!
   173. BWV 1129 Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179194)
In fairness, Verlander is probably lasting longer in this inning than I would with Kate Upton.
   174. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179196)
cf

good to see you boy. no i mean it.

hope you are ok
   175. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179197)
Jeter hustles! Wright would have had it!
   176. Lassus Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179198)
That cannot be scored a base hit.
   177. Dan Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179199)
And I think it would be hilarious if Billy Butler didn't make it into the game.

No way Ron Washington leaves anyone on the bench. Except maybe a catcher.
   178. Guts Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179200)
Damn Panda, you just prevented Furcal from making an awesome play!
   179. Foghorn Leghorn Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179201)
David Wright makes that play.
   180. PreservedFish Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:41 PM (#4179202)
Panda, you so lovable.
   181. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:42 PM (#4179203)
david wright makes that play
   182. dr. scott Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:42 PM (#4179204)

Or jeter will single.
   186. Guts Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:43 PM (#4179208)

   191. Foghorn Leghorn Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:44 PM (#4179213)

don't bother

i have plenty of horse blankets

   194. The elusive Robert Denby Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4179216)

And then let him play second.
   195. PreservedFish Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4179217)
I think this Cano thing will have legs. They're going to be booing him years from now. And I also love it.

Better yet, send him out to 2B as a defensive replacement.

Edit: Bah!
   197. Dan Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4179219)
Can't recall a relief pitcher ever appearing in the 2nd inning of an ASG. Don't they usually run through all of the SP first?
   198. Gamingboy Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4179220)
Hamilton 4-HR [X]
   199. Brian C Posted: July 10, 2012 at 08:45 PM (#4179221)
