How was LaRussa being LaRussa not on the checklist?
   602. Shredder Posted: July 10, 2012 at 10:46 PM (#4179644)
Would not be a TLR game without a mid-inning change after two straight strikeouts.

Good grief, LaRussa is such a horse's ass.

Worst ASG since ________?
   605. JJ1986 Posted: July 10, 2012 at 10:46 PM (#4179647)
Fernando Rodney has a 0.93 ERA in 38.2 IP. If you're going to take closers, you kinda gotta take him.

I don't think three good months makes up for a career of mediocrity.

i presume tony is throwing a bone to dusty by bringing in chapman?

what is the rationale here in an 8-0 game in the 8th???

I have a hard time deciding if Kate Miccuci is "Hollywood ugly" or is super cute in real life.

I think she's super cute, adorable, and hilarious.

I think she's super cute, but sometimes her Keane-painting eyes freak me out a little.

My first thought: "Matt Damon is 48!?" Turns out he's 41.
Meh. I thought he was about my age. Even DUMBER then.

in what world would a player of cano's stature go to a place like kc? or milwaukee? even if the money was there it's not what guys of that stature do.

The Kauffman radar gun is hot, so Chapman should throw about 216 mph.

1996 was the last blowout shutout. Have to think the last time there was a truly and completely bad game was the Clemens-in-Houston game.

Arrowhead [X]

She's got this small face with HUGE eyes. I just looked a bunch of pictures and they seem to alternate between normal cute and weird/cute. Don't know much about her.

The Kauffman gun is so hot that he might throw one at 90% the speed of light, killing us all.

Wait, really? I didn't notice that at all.

The problem was that G-M-S Stanton pulled out, and the next best Marlin for the role of "young slugging outfielder" is a guy who's 30 years old and has 12 career home runs.

Anyone notice that the ASG usually moves at a pretty decent clip? I don't think it's gone much past 3 hours since the 2008 marathon. The players don't spend a pile of time futzing around between pitches. Here we are in the 9th inning at 2:40 since game start, exactly on schedule.

Miccuci is okay on Raising Hope, but they gave her bit role. Now, the actress playing Sabrina Collins(Shannon Woodwood) on Raising Hope? She's hot.

Abe Alvarez did, but I don't think he ever made the majors.
   649. Karl from NY Posted: July 10, 2012 at 11:00 PM (#4179693)
Game time of 9-inning ASGs this millennium starting with most recent: 2:50 2:59 2:31 3:06 2:33 2:41 2:59 2:38 2:48 2:56

Why in the world can't postseason baseball move along like that? I love the ASG as the one major baseball event that doesn't have me just wanting to drag over to bed around the seventh inning.

The problem was that G-M-S Stanton pulled out, and the next best Marlin for the role of "young slugging outfielder" is a guy who's 30 years old and has 12 career home runs.

This prompted me to look up the Marlins and Jose Reyes, and discover that not only is he having a fairly below-average year (and the rest of the team-- blecch), his middle name is also Bernie Williams' full first name. (Bernabe.)
   652. JJ1986 Posted: July 10, 2012 at 11:00 PM (#4179696)

No, one more recently. There was the clutching of pearls on a radio, and someone said no, it's ok, he has a bad eye, but that's all I remember. I want to say it was a red team.

A lot, given that the whole chant is based on larger sample sizes. But I think it's fair to say that the very best NL players are as good as the very best AL players and the best NL team matches up well with the best AL team.

That's the first Statefarm sports commercial that's made me crack a smile. So much better than the Aaron Rodgers one.

i know it won't happen now in his career but i will alays be puzzled. big guy. controls the strike zone. go figure

I never know how they determine the winning pitcher in a game like this. Does the official scorer just pick the guy he likes the most?
   688. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: July 10, 2012 at 11:12 PM (#4179735)
Woulda guessed we'd see all these pitches to the backstop for Dickey, not Hanrahan.

not a 100 percent sure but i think if 1974 earl weaver was in the opposite dugout and the nl changed pitchers in this situation he would race across the field and punch larussa in the groin

He'd get to do it twice, and we'd applaud him.
