Or Dwight Eisenhower before the knee injury at West Point. One of the best high school athletes in the country, he looked like he was going to be a football star, playing both offense and defense in those days, when he suffered a knee injury that ended all that.
I agree. And unfairly (see, "should not be playing CF anymore").
College aged Jimmy Carter played lightweight (sprint) football at Annapolis. I can't imagine a 20 year old at a service academy who wasn't at least pretty quick.
Managing a bullpen in October is incredibly hard.
Ha! If you're going to take Holland out, why let him pitch to Cespedes?
Pinch hitters?
For the WC playoff game on Friday? They'll be well-rested.
Seriously, though, it's always fun to watch Washington manage; it's like watching Brenly during the 2001 WS, only in some ways much funnier because it's spread out over so many more games. The playoffs would be poorer without him around to entertain us.
Wash manages baseball games like I manage Diplomacy games...
Yes...and as long as you give him one.
well, maybe he'll save someone from being mugged on the way home from the game or something
Given the rate at which people are sending their girlfriends for beer this afternoon, I think so.
Cook and Balfour have each pitched the last four days. I'm sure Melvin wanted Blevins to hang in longer.
Adam Greenberg wasn't around.
He's going to get us all beer?
Naw, just text my GF. It's cool.
EDIT: Strike three worked too......what a game.
YE OF LITTLE FAITH!
also the damn intern has left. lazy slacker.
I have a bottle of wine in my office. That would be kind of weird though.
Happy Anniversary, by the way.
Oddly enough, like 2006 the team that sucked down the stretch and got passed could still make it to the World Series.
Not Hamilton's day.
If you're referring to the Rangers :) I'd argue that they didn't really start sucking till last Friday night. They played very well in August and quite reasonably in September. The A's have played brilliantly, and if they win today they'll have truly won the division, much more than the Rangers have lost it.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"It'll be incredibly hard."
So... I bought ALCS tickets. LET'S GO OAKLAND! (also, no one can blow a 4 run lead in half an inning, ri... oh.)
I was more referring to the 2006 Tigers but point taken!
LET'S FIND OUT!
"It's incredibly hard."
"It's incredibly hard."
Well, Shooty will not be winning manager of the year.
A celebration to last throughout the year
So bring your good times, and your laughter, too
'Cause we're gonna celebrate your party with you...
Hey, I was just askin!
Now I must wish for an Orioles' loss, so that I can see them play at Arlington on Friday. I have a ticket, but it's for a largely theoretical game right now.
I wouldn't want to piss off an Australian who has that for entrance music....
Bob, I'm 99.999% stoked right now, and that .001 % is because you're a fantastic Rangers fan. At the end of the day, you guys can still be World Series Champs this year.
This is the biggest A's win, for me, since #20.
Grant Balfour: Second Greatest Australian Baseball Player in MLB History.
Behind Dave Nilsson, I assume.
