giants, meanwhile are beating Kershaw in an attempt to knock him out of the Cy Young consideration.
though the Dodgers falling off a cliff was fun, it sure took away any excitement in the NL races.
I guess that works.
How much does he have to give up for Dickey to get the ERA title?
There won't be an NLCS in Washington.
That's a clown assumption, bro.
I don't think the Cardinals are good enough to beat the Nats.
I thought only he saw that.
What an appropriate way for the crappy ass Sox to finish the year.I'll be damn glad to get this season over and done with. Man do I hate this team
I think it'll be Saunders v. Darvish.
Eh, Saunders is the only guy they have who can be considered a veteran starter, and he's done okay down the stretch. And you got to know that Buck will fill up the bullpen with 16 guys and a short leash.
Of course, a one game playoff is such a total crapshoot. Who the hell knows?
He's crushing my wildcard tix
OK, so this game now has some potential.
And in the process is punching mine. If that metaphor makes sense. If the Rays hold on, I'm fixing to go to an impromptu ballgame Friday here in Arlington.
With luck, that will be the only ballgame Arlington will see in this postseason. [fingers crossed]
One man gathers what another man spills
On how many MVP ballots will he slot in ahead of Jeter? Fewer than 10? Fewer than 5?
0. I will be shocked if he finishes higher than 8th.
Cano 7.6 WAR
Cabrera 6.9 WAR
Cabrera's had a higher WAR than Cano for every year of Cano's career.
He says that Theo built a Moneyball team, and the Trade this year along with some of the other moves was the new management's way of ridding themselves of "a Moneyball roster" so that they could start over, scouts-only.
Interesting.
Cano's lack of MVP buzz is puzzling. He's a Gold Glove second baseman (I'm assuming he wins it this year), he's got 33 HRs as of tonight, and he's hitting well over .300, all for a playoff team. That sounds like a recipe for a MVP candidate. Is it really all the lack of RBIs? I mean, sure, Jeter might steal some votes, but that seems to be a result of writers choosing him by default, since they don't see any other Yankees worthy of getting up ballot support. I don't get it, but I guess I don't care so much. As long as Cano is having an awesome season, I'm going to enjoy it.
Oh, I don't expect him to win. But people have been not mentioning him at all. To be fair, Cano played his worst baseball right as the conversation was really getting going.
Cowboy, I'll bet that if Cano was hitting .400 with RISP, it would be a different conversation.
I think you're right. I'm just surprised that is the end all.
Have fun at the WC game Bob!
Cano's season would be good enough to win in many years, but Cabrera & Trout are both having seasons that would almost always win. Cano's September surge may be overlooked by those not paying close attention, so he may under-perform on the ballot, although I'd put him #3.
Not even a September surge, it's all be in the last week and a half. In another year, hitting .500+ for the last nine games of the season during a tight race to win the division would lock in a player with his numbers for the award. But as you say, it's hard to compete with a triple crown or a 10 win season.
Yes. If they lose the A's win tie breakers for home field.
On Fangraphs, yes. On Bref, Cano has won 2 of the last 3 years handily (and lost the 3rd handily).
That is bush league! Damnit Girardi. Not cool.
Johnson finishes the year hitting .364/.548/.818.
You can still let Granderson hit. He's either going to K, hit a HR, or fly out anyway. No chance for injury. Cano better not run out to play second when they take the field.
Cabrera would've still won the triple crown if they tied.
Yeah, but with a footnote.
I disagree. Granderson did his job for the day. Let Cabrera enjoy his personal accomplishment.
No footnote. Yaz doesn't have one. Neither does Medwick.
I'll be glad to see you go
I'm pretty sure I predicted that one.
For fans, sure; for players there's extra $.
Congratulations and good luck in the post season!
Let's see, would they have?
With the Orioles winning, the Rangers wouldn't have felt like they could coast with the wild card as a fall-back, because there would have been the risk of losing it. The Yankees would have been in the same position as the Rangers--unable to coast because they could have lost the wild card to, in their case, the A's. Meanwhile, the Orioles and A's would have been going full tilt trying to win their respective divisions or the wild card, and if anything, fuller tilt, because they only had one wild card to win.
I think it would have played out the same way.
None of that bush league Brett Favre nonsense. You should never lay down to make achieving history easier. Not that that really happened here, but Girardi should have let his guy get a shot at a share of the HR title. It's a minor point, I'm not all that worked up about it, but I would have let Grandy hit.
Alrighty then. Congratulations to Mr. Granderson for a fine season but his individual accomplishments should carry little significance; only team victory matters to these stoic, hard-fighting New York Yankees. Onwards to 28 lads! Excelsior!
Braves beat cards
Giants beat reds
Nats beat braves
O's beat Texas

O's beat Yankees.
50% chance of all regional WS.
Yeah, because no Yankee has ever been injured by a Bosox HBP, and pulled something while running the bases.
1. In the first year of the coin-flip format, the 94-win team is bound to lose to the 88-win team, especially when
2. The 94-win team is going to start the hottest pitcher in baseball, with an ERA well under 2,
3. The same 94-win team is one that has frequently in its history been the best team in the league but lost before the World Series, and to top it off,
4. The 88-win team has beaten much better teams in the post-season on a routine basis over the past few years.
GO ANY TEAM THAT BEATS THE YANKS!!!
WIN!!! ANY NL TEAM!!!!!
