Colombia-Brazil link is here.
   2. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:30 PM (#4304972)
First inning pitching change for Colombia.
   3. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:31 PM (#4304973)
Missed the top of the inning. Bases loaded?

[edit] yup.
   4. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:32 PM (#4304975)
Missed the top of the inning. Bases loaded?

Yeah, bases loaded, but Brazil escaped. Again. And then they caught another break with Marwin Vega leaving so early. Must be hurt.
   5. Tschingsch Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:34 PM (#4304977)
Looked like he pulled a hamstring
   6. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:35 PM (#4304978)
Doesn't look like the winner of this game will have much of a chance to move on.
Unless Brazil has some crazy luck.
   7. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:35 PM (#4304979)
Unless Brazil has some crazy luck.

Which is entirely possible.
   8. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:37 PM (#4304981)
They've already had crazy luck.
Nice bit of luck for Gomes.
   9. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:41 PM (#4304982)
It seems to always rain in Panama.
   10. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:43 PM (#4304983)
Indeed.
   11. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:49 PM (#4304993)
lucky lucky lucky.
   12. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:49 PM (#4304994)
In fact, I seem to recall it's one of the reasons why a Panamanian league has never been able to last more than a few years: with so much rain, they lose a ton of games and a lot of the games do play end up being sparsely populated because they get delayed so much (which you can see in the WBC games so far that didn't involve Panama).
   13. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:52 PM (#4304995)
Makes sense. The certainly seem to have the talent.
You think the guy in the white hat who was talking to the home plate ump was from the ground crew?
   14. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 02:59 PM (#4305000)
Now it's Colombia's turn to escape.
   15. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:00 PM (#4305002)
Clear skies, at least.
   16. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:04 PM (#4305004)
Mariano Duncan!
   17. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:08 PM (#4305005)
Colombia foolishly put men in scoring position.
   18. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:08 PM (#4305007)
Pitcher's settling down.
   19. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:09 PM (#4305008)
Wish i could understand more of the #WBC tweets.
   20. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:13 PM (#4305012)
Hey, look, somebody in scoring position! I wonder what will happen next?
   21. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:17 PM (#4305018)
This stadium does play like Oakland, huh?
   22. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:17 PM (#4305019)
Yep, just what I thought.
   23. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:22 PM (#4305020)
I got to admit, just from what I've seen so far and what I've heard in the past, I have to think Barry Larkin would be a better manager for the Reds than Dusty Baker.
   24. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:22 PM (#4305021)
Concur.
   25. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:28 PM (#4305023)
Well, someone has to win eventually.
   26. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:28 PM (#4305024)
And here I thought after seeing Colombia last night that they'd mercy-rule the Brazilians.
   27. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:30 PM (#4305027)
Yeah, there's some luck, but B has got some pitching & d.
   28. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:31 PM (#4305028)
Balk!
   29. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:34 PM (#4305030)
RBI!
   30. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:34 PM (#4305032)
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL
   31. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:38 PM (#4305035)
As amazing as it is, but if Brazil were to win this game, they'd actually have a puncher's chance in the final, since whoever had gone through loser's bracket would have used up more of their pitchers due to the pitch-count considerations, which could give Brazil an advantage in the number of arms available from the bullpen, which would allow them to work matchups and such more.
   32. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:41 PM (#4305038)
Larkin does seem comfortable managing pitch counts. Is he doing anything in the minors?
   33. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:43 PM (#4305041)

Larkin does seem comfortable managing pitch counts. Is he doing anything in the minors?

Don't think so. He's been at ESPN while doing the occasional clinic or Futures Game coaching stint, I think.
   34. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:45 PM (#4305043)
He'll get some attention here, I'm sure.
   35. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:47 PM (#4305044)
Uh oh.
   36. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:47 PM (#4305045)
Jolbert Cabrera: Colombian Hero.
   37. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:49 PM (#4305046)
Huge double play. Instantly stopped the bleeding.
   38. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:49 PM (#4305047)
lucky
   39. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:50 PM (#4305048)
OK, not lucky, good d.
   40. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:55 PM (#4305051)
This Paulo Orlando guy, I feel, has a big league future. He's impressed me and his stats aren't that bad.
   41. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:57 PM (#4305053)
ouch
   42. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 03:58 PM (#4305054)
Orlando does look good, doesn't he?
   43. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:01 PM (#4305055)
Gomes!
   44. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:01 PM (#4305056)
Yan Gomes!
   45. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:04 PM (#4305057)
Good fielding, good enough pitching and timely hitting...
   46. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:06 PM (#4305058)
"Cal State LA"...

Collegiate!
   47. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:06 PM (#4305060)
Seems like all of these pitchers are of Japanese descent.
   48. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:09 PM (#4305062)
Wonder if Larkin would listen if the Jays called...
   49. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:09 PM (#4305063)
Seems like all of these pitchers are of Japanese descent.

More or less that's true. The Japanese-descent players the ones who generally have been playing baseball the longest, so have had more time to learn how to pitch well.
   50. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:10 PM (#4305064)
123! for the college boy!
   51. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:11 PM (#4305065)
Huzzah for Amateurism!
   52. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:11 PM (#4305066)
The article on Brazil that was linked a few days ago was fascinating.
   53. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:17 PM (#4305070)
Hey, there are some Brazilians in the stands. I wonder if they'd get any publicity back home if they made it the WBC. I doubt it'd get much, simply due to the pervasity of Futbol, but you'd have to think even a small mention could do wonders. I mean, I know Barry Larkin getting hired got some press down there- partially because his daughter is a minor celebrity there who sang the theme song of a soap opera...
   54. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:19 PM (#4305071)
I assumed the fans in the stands were family, but yeah a bit of pr would go a long way. Huge country, have to build up region by region.
   55. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:21 PM (#4305072)
Big chance here.
   56. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:21 PM (#4305073)
Huge country, have to build up region by region.

Yeah, it seems like a large percentage of these guys are from certain provinces. None of them seem to be from Rio, mainly Sao Paulo and such.
   57. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:22 PM (#4305074)
not good third basing there
   58. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:23 PM (#4305075)
oooh sac fly!
   59. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:23 PM (#4305076)
Insurance!
   60. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:25 PM (#4305078)
Safe!
   61. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:27 PM (#4305079)
Pretty productive for the green and yellow.
   62. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:27 PM (#4305080)
Brazil has no fear.
   63. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:31 PM (#4305081)
Mota agrees "no fear".
   64. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:33 PM (#4305084)
Renteria = belly
   65. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:33 PM (#4305086)
Ball 3 should have been a strike.
   66. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:34 PM (#4305087)
Strike 3 was ball four.
   67. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:34 PM (#4305088)
Charity call!
   68. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:36 PM (#4305089)
Donovan Solano is like: "Jeez, this kid is in College, we're big leaguers! What are we striking out for?"
   69. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:38 PM (#4305091)
Hmm maybe the magic is wearing off. Can't be as sneaky from the stretch?
   70. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:40 PM (#4305093)
Takes it for the team
   71. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:41 PM (#4305094)
Maybe...
   72. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:43 PM (#4305098)
N-C-A-A!
   73. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:44 PM (#4305099)
Wriggles out of it!
   74. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:49 PM (#4305100)
Not taking their foot off the gas.
   75. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:51 PM (#4305104)
Fear the Gomes!
   76. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:52 PM (#4305106)
Yan Gomes has been intentionally walked. Yes, it has come to this.
   77. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:52 PM (#4305107)
Brasil! Viva Brasil!
   78. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:52 PM (#4305108)
Crowd's getting louder!
   79. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:53 PM (#4305109)
OK, this is the residue of design.
   80. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:55 PM (#4305110)
Trying to figure out whether this is more crazy than the Honkbal.
   81. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:57 PM (#4305111)
Less crazy, I think. Japanese coached by Cubans.
   82. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 04:59 PM (#4305113)
Good try by the third baseman.
   83. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:00 PM (#4305114)
...

(speechless at this)
   84. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:00 PM (#4305115)
oops. Not such a good try.
   85. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:01 PM (#4305117)
I agree with you Spos, although should they end up winning this whole thing and qualify for the WBC proper, I reserve the right to change my opinion.
   86. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:01 PM (#4305118)
Wheels fall off
   87. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:02 PM (#4305120)
Colombia is shell-shocked.
   88. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:02 PM (#4305121)
If they advance, it would be more crazy IMO.
   89. ((('Spos))) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:03 PM (#4305123)
Uh oh, gotta go cook. Hope to catch the 8pm game...
   90. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:16 PM (#4305132)
A shame, 'Spos, because Brazil. I mean, they are just fun to watch.
   91. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:24 PM (#4305139)
7-1! Gooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaallllllll! GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAL! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLL!
   92. Jarrod HypnerotomachiaPoliphili (TeddyF.Ballgame) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:33 PM (#4305143)
Nice to see so many comments on a WBC thread.
   93. Jarrod HypnerotomachiaPoliphili (TeddyF.Ballgame) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:33 PM (#4305145)
Did Colombia just pinch hit for Renteria?
   94. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:36 PM (#4305146)
Yes, and it worked too.
   95. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:37 PM (#4305148)
Oh, come on, I want this game done soon so I can catch the end of this game.
   96. Obo Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:41 PM (#4305150)
Thanks for putting up the link back in post 1, Gamingboy. Have caught most of this since the sixth and it's been a fun game to watch.
   97. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:41 PM (#4305151)
16 YEARS OLD!?!?!
   98. Obo Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:42 PM (#4305152)
Nice catch to end it.
   99. Jarrod HypnerotomachiaPoliphili (TeddyF.Ballgame) Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:45 PM (#4305154)
When they make the movie, the sixteen-year-old will be facing a bigger big leaguer than Martinez.
   100. Gamingboy Posted: November 17, 2012 at 05:45 PM (#4305155)
Victory for Brazil. Time to recharge until 8.
