2012 World Series Game 1 OMNICHATTER

The National Pastime’s pinnacle event begins. It was once said that it was foretold by being written in the stars, a million miles away… hang on, stars are a lot farther than a million miles away! Weird.

AL Champion Detroit Tigers (Verlander)
@
NL Champion San Francisco Giants (Zito)

8 PM (more or less), FOX.

So, I was listening to the Sirius 1940s station recently. Lots of Bing Crosby. What I'm wondering about is this: what age group decided what was popular back then? Obviously in the 60s it was teens that were going crazy about the Beatles, and teens in the 90s listening to the Backstreet Boys or whatever, but the 40s music does not sound like the sound of teenagers.

Presumably people on the homefront...

The rise of teenagers (and even young adults) as drivers of pop culture (that is, with disposable income) hadn't occurred before the 1950s. Before World War II, pop music was driven by adults, probably by ages 30-50 or so.

Nothing as awesome as a swinging K on a pitch that bounced.

Whatever, people. Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire and pretty much everyone except ol' Uncle Frankie himself take a back seat to Scott Walker anyway.

You misspelled Thom Yorke. Or Peter Gabriel. Or something.

Shooty, you do not win. Even Sam Cooke takes a back seat to Nat King Cole.

Might as well give in, it's the dominate practice of the time. It begs the question of what other errors will creep into our vernacular.

I hate the song, but that isn't my problem with it. You just don't afford the same level of respect to some random ass song as you do the National Anthem(regardless of your opinion on the quality/agreement of the Star Spangled Banner).
