2012 World Series Game 4 OMNICHATTER

Remember the 2012 season? It started over in Japan, and, like, it was between the Mariners and the Athletics, and nobody really gave a darn, since OBVIOUSLY neither of them would be in the playoff picture? And remember when Matt Cain threw that perfect game, and the Orioles made the playoffs, and Josh Hamilton went deep four times in one night? And the Red Sox drama! And… and…

Well, this might be it… OR WILL IT?!?

San Francisco Giants (Cain) @ Detroit Tigers (Scherzer). SF leads 3-0.

Who gets into this game first; Valverde or Verlander?

I'd guess that Valverde has a 1% chance of appearing in this game, and Verlander has 0%.

Extra inning game in the World Series, at least one of these games has been interesting.

I can't have been the only one who thought of 2006 as Coke spun around to throw on the bunt.

This is all moving along not entirely unlike the 2004 ALCS
Thank goodness I spent most of the back end of that Series bombed out of my skull.

Did McCarver just learn the phrase "no doubles defense"? He can't stop saying it.

It appears the phantom cam exists to showcase gruesome injuries. Can't wait to see what they do with it in football.
   515. Lassus Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:35 PM (#4286828)
WTF is it with batters whacking the catchers lately. Seems so common.
   516. Shooty Survived the Shutdown of '14! Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:35 PM (#4286829)
This could be a SCUTARO moment.

Hopefully not that Lattimore injury yesterday...yikes...

Did McCarver just learn the phrase "no doubles defense"? He can't stop saying it.

Oh, no. He kept saying it in the bottom of the 9th of the classic game 6 last year. First, he kept wailing against the Rangers for playing the outfield so deep (with the tying run on first) and then when Freese hit the triple, he said "even with the Rangers in their no doubles defense... they give up a double!". Failing to recognize that without the deep outfield defense, Cruz wouldn't have had any shot at that ball...

Of course it's Scutaro. I want more baseball, but Marco Scutaro World Series Hero is pretty cool as a consolation.

I thought that too, but judging by the replay he had no shot. The real problem was the throw home, which had no chance and let Scutaro go to second.

It appears the phantom cam exists to showcase gruesome injuries. Can't wait to see what they do with it in football.

I know this is tongue-in-cheek, but the Phantom isn't an especially movable camera, so its football applicability would be limited. Might be usable on both goal lines, though.

SCUTARO!
   535. VoodooR Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:39 PM (#4286850)

Don't know that he had a chance to get there, but in that situation Jackson has to go all in on getting to the ball in the air.

   541. Monty Predicts a Padres-Mariners WS in 2016 Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:39 PM (#4286856)
That was a pretty poor slide. I mean, considering that he was going nowhere near the base.
   542. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:39 PM (#4286857)
Former Chicago Cub Ryan Theriot scores the run that wins the World Series. Baseball is a funny game.

Marco Scutaro's middle name now starts with an F in Detroit.
   546. Good cripple hitter Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:41 PM (#4286861)
Dive or no dive, I'm not sure how he didn't have a better shot at that. It's the 10th inning, it's Marco Scutaro, the winning run is at second, and Jackson's supposed to be a great defender.
   547. The Ghost's Tryin' to Reason with Hurricane Season Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:41 PM (#4286862)
I thought he should have gone for it at first, too. I doubt he could have gotten it, but the way the Tigers have been scoring (NOT), I'd say he had to gamble.
   548. deputydrew Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:41 PM (#4286863)
I do love that Scutaro's nickname for the Giants is "blockbuster." He's certainly earned it the last two weeks.

This is where you need Kevin Millar to draw a walk.
   555. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Panda. Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:45 PM (#4286872)
With Romo pitching, why would you swing at anything that starts outside?
   556. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:45 PM (#4286873)
That pitch was further away from Jackson than Scutaros line drive was.

I think for the offseason, I'll try to teach myself how to diagnose a check-swing. I can never tell if the batter's "gone around," even in slow motion.
   564. JJ1986 Posted: October 28, 2012 at 11:47 PM (#4286881)
Doug Fister would have a better shot up there.

Slider, not sinker. Supposedly the "dot" hitters look for with the slider is essentially non-existent on his.
