Rodon's had a weird year. He has good peripherals (86.2 IP, 102K, 18 BB, 2 HR) and a good ERA (1.47), but he's 4-7 and has allowed almost as many unearned runs as earned. The unearned runs thing is weird -- he has 16, which is half of the team total. Is that bad luck? Players tensing up when he's pitching? Evidence of hard-hit balls bouncing off of players' gloves? Evidence of biased scoring? All of the above?

This article has a scout claiming he's dropped a couple of mph, but who knows.

This one.

The Cubs pick fourth in a draft with three defined elite talents.

Doesn't that about sum up the franchise, especially as of late?

Man that headline is one fine mangling of the English language.

Kris Bryant says hello.

It was even more confusing for me because I thought it was about the Cubs' reliever (Rondon).

The Pirates system is long on athleticism but could use a polished bat. The best options are bad-bodied players such as Indiana’s Kyle Schwarber, who could move to first base or left field, and Georgia prep Michael Chavis, who might play second base but also is a catcher conversion candidate.

Boy, I don't like the idea of Schwarber at all. He wouldn't end up as a catcher for the Pirates, given some of the guys ahead of him, he doesn't look like his legs will project well enough for him to play the OF, and I don't like his bat enough as a 1B for him to be worth a first-round pick. He's strong, but he's got all kinds of weird hand movement and timing stuff, and he doesn't seem to have great bat or body control.

Chavis might be OK, but why try to force a bat if this is a draft primarily focused on pitching?

Jesus ####, look at the defensive clips of Schwarber in MLB.com's draft video preview.

Just in time for the Godzilla opening!

OT alert! What is up with that movie? The trailer seems to want to import it with all the gravitas of the 9/11 rescue operation and then...a shrieking Godzilla. The disjunction of tone makes me chuckle every time I see it.

So where does Bryant end up playing at the major league level. I don't think there is a chance in hell that he sticks at third and with first blocked by Rizzo what does that leave him? Right field? I have my doubts.

The throw to second barely cleared the pitcher's mound.
