2018 Season opens Thursday, March 29, with all 30 teams playing

The earliest non-international start date ever. The last time all the teams started the same day was 1968.

This also confirms that SABR 48 will be held June 20-24, 2018, in Pittsburgh.

I’ll set the over/under for games not completed on that day due to weather at 2.5

Horrible. Why not wait until the next Monday and start the season like they usually do?

This is going to play havoc with my fantasy leagues.

Without even looking at the stadiums, I'll take the over.

I like this little change:

One of the most unique twists in the 2018 schedule is the single day game on Thursday, July 19, when the Cardinals and Cubs renew their rivalry at Wrigley Field. In the past, both the Wednesday and Thursday following the All-Star Game have been dark, with the full schedule resuming on Friday.
In 2018, there will be no ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game on the Sunday preceding the All-Star Game presented by Mastercard. That was stipulated last winter in the collective bargaining agreement to ease travel for all of the All-Stars. (This year was the last one allowed, and the Indians and Tigers representatives got to Miami past 5 a.m.) As a result of that switch, MLB has moved that lone game to Thursday in a national broadcast window.

Better for the players, and I like the idea of a few more marquee day games played to generate some excitement that reminds me of watching games when I was a kid. In the summer, having targeted day games during a summer weekday on national TV gives a generation of kids who are killing time in the middle of the summer a chance to watch a game between teams that aren't in their home market. As a kid, I loved finding out that WWOR or WTBS had a Mets or Braves game on at 2:05 on a random Wednesday a few times a month. I'd get a few friends over, we'd watch the game and shoot the breeze about baseball, trade baseball cards, etc. I don't want to sound like the "get off my lawn" guy, but does that happen so much with the current generation of sports-loving kids?
