I sure hope that Soriano isn't one of these guys who gets his payday and then goes on a mental vacation for the rest of his life.

Ambition is a poor excuse for not having the good sense to be lazy.

Oh yeah--Henderson, who almost gave up a grand slam to Castro yesterday.

Also, #### Pete Kozma AND Daniel Descalso.

Oh, nice work A's.

So speaking of Moyer....

Was just perusing Wikipedia -- and while I knew that Moyer was married to Digger Phelps daughter, did you know that Harry Caray was the one that introduced them? She was interning at WGN at the time.

Marmol in a tie game. What could go wrong? OTOH, his ERA's lower than Axford's...
   306. zonk Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:28 PM (#4409265)
Cubs to Brewers: We sneer at your worthless, wild, and wholly hittable ex-closer. We shall see your call and raise you a Marmol!

The Marlins seem like they have a level chance to be one of the worst teams in recent memory.
   310. zonk Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:31 PM (#4409269)
The Astros say that sounds like a challenge.
   311. zonk Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:31 PM (#4409270)
Was it me or was Shierholtz lollygagging?

Marmol with back to back scoreless appearances. The end is nigh.

STARLIN!
   314. Spahn Insane Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:33 PM (#4409275)
Schierholtz may have been assuming it'd blow foul, like most balls hit in the corner tonight.

Well, he makes up for it there.
   316. Spahn Insane Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:37 PM (#4409282)
And Castillo showing bunt. Feck's sake.
   317. zonk Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:37 PM (#4409283)
Bad Dale Sveum! Bad!

There are two massive out holes of suck following Castillo!

Brandon Maurer didn't last the first inning. Astros tagged him for 6 runs.

Now, up to the bottom of the order to drive him in. I'm less than confident.

Oh dear god, Brent Lillibridge.
   322. Spahn Insane Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:40 PM (#4409291)
Great--walk Valbuena to get to Lillibridge. Not like that was foreseeable. Screw this.

Ah--Navarro batting for Lillibridge.
   323. zonk Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:40 PM (#4409292)
Sigh.... so the only real play is to root FOR a Lillibridge strikeout, rather than the surely coming DPB

Brandon Maurer didn't last the first inning. Astros tagged him for 6 runs.

???? I didn't think they were capable of doing that in a week.

Dioner Navarro does not look to be in excellent shape.
   326. zonk Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:43 PM (#4409296)
I was wondering who would play 2B - then I forgot that we also have Random Utility IF Gonzalez.

That said, his eyes were good enough there. Hairston with the bags loaded.

   336. puck Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:50 PM (#4409307)
Lincecum is still not right, huh? Walked the pitcher to load the bases, then gave up a double up the RF line to Fowler.
   337. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:50 PM (#4409308)
I'm not seeing credit for a WP in the box score, but Timmy definitely threw it at the backstop between Nicasio and Sanchez's arm, outstretched reaching for the pitch. It was a lil scary, actually.
   338. Spahn Insane Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:50 PM (#4409309)
"A season high 6 runs for the Cubs," says Kasper. Depressing, and amazing, considering the wind's blowing in about 30.

9-0 Houston now... so you figure there's at least a 55% chance they win their second of the year.

5 run 2nd for Lincecum.

5-1 game Cardinals winning, ninth inning and Mitchell Boggs coming in... I was hoping we would be able to pull this game out but it looks like Matheny isn't having any of that.
   343. zonk Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:55 PM (#4409320)

With Nicasio up? Who advanced? Maybe I missed it. Rosario was credited with a steal on a low pitch that Sanchez caught.

Edit: Ah, the earlier pitch, when Cuddyer moved up. That hasn't been scored a WP?
   345. Spahn Insane Posted: April 09, 2013 at 10:57 PM (#4409323)
Fujikawa missed his spot by a foot and a half, and got called strike 3 anyway.

I'm willing to give a pass on the throws because of the weather, but Valbuena should've fielded that cleanly to start with.
   348. zonk Posted: April 09, 2013 at 11:01 PM (#4409329)

Valbuena already has one hit tonight, plus a walk! He's not running for Jesus here...

It really pisses me off that Los Campesinos! are powering a friggin Budweiser commercial.

I've known people in bands that found flavor-of-the-week success once upon a time, and they would've killed for a Budweiser commercial. Be happy they're getting paid.

Budweiser sucks but at least it's not Walmart or McDonald's. They're not an evil empire with questionable business/moral ethics. They just make shitty beer.

Yeah, but this same #### happened with The Features...

As Cake would put it... I don't have the tee shirt to prove I heard of them first.

I don't know what's worse, the Ms down 11-0 to the AAA Astros after three, or that Erik Bedard is throwing a perfect game so far.

   362. Davo Dozier Posted: April 09, 2013 at 11:36 PM (#4409371)
The Astros are up 13-0 through 4. Every starter on their team has at least one run scored and at least one hit....

except for Brett Wallace. He's 0 for 3 with 3 strikeouts.

On the season, he's now 1 for 20. With 16 strikeouts.
   363. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: April 09, 2013 at 11:37 PM (#4409372)

   364. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 09, 2013 at 11:41 PM (#4409373)
Also, zonk, if it makes you feel better, Budweiser merged with another brewing/bottling company some years ago. So think of it as a Stella Artois or Hoegaarden commercial!

The band isn't pissed off. When the deal was announced, their post in their blog made them sound extremely pleased.

Brett Wallace and Rick Ankiel are now a combined 2 for 34 with 28 Ks for the Astros.

Nice catch by Hamilton!
   369. Tom Nawrocki Posted: April 09, 2013 at 11:55 PM (#4409380)
Tulo with a long homer to left off Timmy Lincecum to make it 6-2 Rockies. Tulowitzki now has three homers on the year, all on the road.
   370. Crispix reaches boiling point with lackluster play Posted: April 10, 2013 at 12:04 AM (#4409385)
If Brett Wallace keeps up this pace, and it seems like he will because he doesn't have much protection in that lineup, he'll have over 200 strikeouts at the All-Star break. They'll have to get him into the festivities somehow. He could stand in front of the batters and whiff during the Home Run Derby, for example.

Is Bedard injured or just on a pitch count? Pretty crappy for him to not get the win in a 13-0 game.

He must be injured. I would think they would be pumping up his stock and so they could trade him. Dude had 66 pitches. What kind of pitch count could he be on?
   376. Dock Ellis on Acid Posted: April 10, 2013 at 12:21 AM (#4409394)
6-5 Rockies, Two runners in scoring position, 1 out. Panda comes to bat.

This guy Ottavino for the Rockies couldn't find the strike zone with a map, a flashlight, and a seeing-eye dog. So the first IBB pitch to the portly Pablo almost sent the equally portly Rosario on his back as he had to do the splits to keep the very low and wide pitch from bouncing to the backstop.

As Dock Ellis would say, "Rosario moves pretty well (for a fatty!)"
   388. Danny Posted: April 10, 2013 at 12:42 AM (#4409412)

   391. Davo Dozier Posted: April 10, 2013 at 12:47 AM (#4409417)
So Mike Trout has yet to attempt a steal in 7 opportunities this year (Trout on first, no runners on base ahead of him).

Any reason why that would be the case?

Scutaro stole a base hit away from the hitter there, that was a dying quail into no-man's land. Nice.

Hadn't a lot of guys here written him off before his resurgence with the Giants?

I retract my erstwhile ersatz compliment of Wil Rosario. Now that I see him standing at the plate I see that he is less portly than he is simply chunky. So the third baseman thing is still pure.

I don't like being the guy who talks about his fantasy team but I started Linceum, and streamed Maurer against the Astros. My ERA for today is 16.20.

The bright side is Timmy got 7 k's in 6 innings, and Maurer struck out the only two outs he made, so my K % is good.

And I have Romo, who should come in for the save now that the Giants have taken over on Pagan's tie-breaking single to bring in Torres.
