Cards vs Brewers..free game of the day.:) Yea I get to watch a live game again. Major drawback about dumping cable.

Okay, my off-topic thoughts on last night's Doctor Who episode: Pretty good, not great. Felt like "Dalek" meets Alien ON A SOVIET SUBMARINE, which, I got to say, certainly isn't the worst thing to be called. I've never seen the classic Ice Warrior episodes (it's on my To-Do list), so I can't comment on how faithful Skaldek was, but he seemed a good character, sort of confused like I'd think a guy just unthawed from centuries of being an icicle would be. And the Russians were a good mix of characters, especially that professor that had become obsessed with 80s synth-pop. He was great. Definitely some flaws, though, mainly with the ending, the fact Skaldek seemed to get new abilities as the plot required, and some contrived coincidences, as well as the fact it doesn't really move the overall season arc forward that much.

Anyway, back to baseball: Mets-Twins has been delayed to August.

Jason Heyward looks like he has no idea how to bunt.

A great side-benefit of interleague play - you're visiting teams in April who you'll never see again. Now the Mets have to play Sunday in San Diego, Monday in Minnesota and Tuesday in Queens.

All hail my Gattis overlord.
   9. Brian White Posted: April 14, 2013 at 01:46 PM (#4413774)
Beautiful AB from Gattis, followed by a terrible one from Uggla. None of this is remotely surprising, of course.

And some clutchiness from Chris Johnson!

Hell yes on the first inning smackdown of the Nats.
   11. DA Baracus Posted: April 14, 2013 at 01:49 PM (#4413777)
3-0 Braves instead of maybe 2-0 because very good to excellent Denard Span couldn't handle a ground ball.

Gattis looks nothing like Galarraga
   14. Brian White Posted: April 14, 2013 at 02:12 PM (#4413788)
No way Espinosa should be awarded that base. That was a pretty blatant case of sticking your arm out just to get hit.

Only problem I had was that the episode really couldn't stay in one "genre". It could have been a good horror episode or it could have been a decent treatise on the cold war, but it didn't succeed at either. Clara hasn't been as much fun as she was in her two appearances where she died. Of course when I badmouth Dr Who, It still means it's a 4 star episode in comparison to other shows. The standards are just higher. (I've gone on wiki to look at upcoming episodes...after this next horror episode, it looks like a three episode run of shows that will be good...an exploration of the tardis, return of Strax(along with Jenny and Vastra, and a Neil Gaiman penned Cybermen episode)

Beautiful AB from Gattis, followed by a terrible one from Uggla. None of this is remotely surprising, of course.

hehehe....Gattis(spelled Gatiss though) is also the writer for the submarine episode and the upcoming Strax(along with Jenny and Vestra) episode.

Zimmerman looked really tentative on that Gattis grounder. Does he normally look like that? Or did those two throwing errors get to his head?

Neither. He simply feared Gattis.

Seriously though, right now his arm is terrible. It's got to be on his mind at least a little.

   32. Brian White Posted: April 14, 2013 at 02:33 PM (#4413813)
Even though it resulted in a DP there, I generally like the strategy of a pitcher showing bunt, and pulling back and trying to slap one past the third baseman. Especially a 3B who's suffering from the yips.

Let's pull down the pillars of the temple: the Nats may well suck this year, but maybe they can injure a few Braves on the way down or something. Like, I want someone to Herb Score a line-drive directly back into Craig Kimbrel's jerk-off face.

Oh spare me. Who's being irrational with their insistence that Denard Span isn't even "very good" as a player? That's nothing more than a photo-negative inversion of "fanboy" behavior (whatever that term even means -- it's been so degraded that it's now getting applied to people who are merely enthusiastic about their team, as opposed to its proper use, namely fans who can't spot a single flaw with anything related to their chosen object of adoration).

In the cubs article about Dale Sveum, they compare the Cubs offense this season to Dale Sveum.... I did this for the Cardinals... and came up with 1997 Brian Johnson....or even more fun... Jeff Francoeur's average season for his career.

He's a very good fielder. He's an average hitter. I don't consider that a "very good" player.

1.) The Nationals aren't nearly as bad as they look right now.

2.) The Braves may well be as good as they look right now, or only slightly less so. They were always formidable, I've been even more scared of them ever since they acquired the Brothers Upton in the off-season, and everything they've done so far confirms that.

Perhaps -- and I don't mean this sarcastically, I'm sincere -- you're unaware of the back-and-forth that Sam and I have been having re: Braves v. Nats over the past few games? This is just schtick, it's all in good fun, and both of us know it. (Well, I'm pretty sure Sam really does think Bryce Harper is pondscum, but except for that...)

I guess I can see how, to a third-party, it looks bizarrely vicious and uncalled for, but that's not really the spirit in which it was intended.
   55. Guts Posted: April 14, 2013 at 02:51 PM (#4413840)

Well, everyone looks worse than they really are when they've reached the point of needing to dig out of a seven run hole just to avoid a sweep at home. Well, everyone but the Marlins. They're really that bad.

Holy crap...you weren't kidding. He really was a janitor in Texas (after a peripatetic young life spent bumming around searching for spiritual answers!) before deciding to try to make it to the Major Leagues.

That's incredible. What a great story.

Holy crap...you weren't kidding.

Gattis' story and his performance so far is so amazing that it doesn't need any embellishment.

I really like that he doesn't wear batting gloves.

So, who plays Gattis in the movie?

Evan Gattis, duh.

I have no idea what the Cards' ideal lineup is right now. I think they need the DH. Way too many corners players.

And as I pointed out about the Frenchy comparison, the team isn't really hitting on all cylinders yet... but man are they scoring runs. Clutch hitting is not sustainable, but right now it's fun to see it happening.
