4-20-2013 OMNICHATTER

Submitting this a bit early… but, anyway, it’s Saturday. It’ll be the first game at Fenway since the Marathon and Friday’s drama, and the day will also see a LAD-BAL doubleheader, Scott Kazmir’s return, and Posey catching Lincecum.

Daniel Nava with a huge 8th inning homer to put the Red Sox on top!
   102. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:20 PM (#4420538)
SUCKS

Was that Wright's fault?
   103. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:21 PM (#4420539)
The only way that could have been louder is if it had happened next inning. Awesome.

The Mets need these two runs to have a shot.
   105. Good cripple hitter Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:21 PM (#4420541)
Lawrie's had an odd game. Some great plays, but missed a line drive that scored 2 runs earlier, and now didn't read the bunt very well and couldn't get back to third.

That line drive was odd. He jumped and the ball went under his glove.

His AB against Chamberlain was also kind of weird. Looked awful on two breaking pitches low and out of the zone to go down 0-2. Had some good takes, count goes full. Then he hacked at another breaking pitch to finish the strike out.

He certainly got rushed through his rehab (and playing a game at 2B didn't help), but I'm not sure if that's really the explanation or not.
   106. JJ1986 Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:22 PM (#4420542)
Why is Gio Gonzalez trying to hit Duda?
   107. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:22 PM (#4420543)
I can't believe those pitches missed Duda's bat over his back TWICE.
   108. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:23 PM (#4420544)
Oh no, loaded.

Cowgill, be useful, please.
   109. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:24 PM (#4420545)
OK, Gio you did it: an out at any base!
   110. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:24 PM (#4420546)
Maybe Gio will walk us in a run. That would be cool.
   111. Gamingboy Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:24 PM (#4420547)
Bailey has given up a HR and something that would have been a HR in some other ballparks.
   112. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:24 PM (#4420548)
YES! Thank you, Cow.
   113. The Clarence Thomas of BBTF (scott) Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:26 PM (#4420550)
######' Lorenzo Cain, what a day.
   114. Tom Nawrocki Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:26 PM (#4420551)
Royals are just killing the ball off Bailey this inning.
   115. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:27 PM (#4420553)
Good job by Cowgill. Big hit.
   116. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:28 PM (#4420554)
Mr. Sulu, begin search pattern for any signs of Gio Gonzales' control.
   117. Tom Nawrocki Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:28 PM (#4420555)
I think Kottaras was the last player on an opening-day roster who hadn't appeared in a game.
   118. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:29 PM (#4420556)
This is going to be the Battle of the Least-Awful Bullpen soon.
   119. Gamingboy Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:30 PM (#4420557)

Mr. Sulu, begin search pattern for any signs of Gio Gonzales' control.

Why would a helmsman do that?
   120. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:30 PM (#4420558)
That was an awesome AB, Ruben, thanks.

OK, Turner, do something.
   121. JJ1986 Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:31 PM (#4420559)
Turner!

WOOOHOOOOOOOO!

Impressive.

It's weird to think that the Mets might actually have a good offense.

What is the point of limiting trips to the mound if the catcher can delay the game for 90 seconds or more?
   127. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:35 PM (#4420567)
Dammit. I wanted a dagger by David there.

This MLB.com article on today's appearance by Neil Diamond has a video mixing the various Sweet Caroline performances this week, over a younger Neil singing - with a bit of the Cheers theme, too.
   130. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 04:46 PM (#4420576)
I would like a faster LF.

Our bullpen is going to blow this.

Albert still looks dangerous on his swings.
   138. Baldrick Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:09 PM (#4420595)
If they had just let Smyly start this game, it would be an awesome pitcher's duel.
   139. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:22 PM (#4420601)
OK, we get out of this inning with no runs, we'll get one in the bottom half.
   140. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:27 PM (#4420603)
Albert still looks dangerous on his swings.

He's hitting .322/.431/.508. You shouldn't be surprised that he looks dangerous when he swings. He is dangerous when he swings.

Washington's radio broadcasters have just informed me that Josh Edgin attended Francis Marion University. As such, would anyone object to a proposed nickname of Swamp Fox?
   142. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:28 PM (#4420605)
If they had just let Smyly start this game, it would be an awesome pitcher's duel.

Why isn't he a starter? Oh I see...Porcello...
   143. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:30 PM (#4420606)
I hate it when I miss dog day at Mets games.

If they had just let Smyly start this game, it would be an awesome pitcher's duel.
After the 9-spot in the bottom of the first inning, both teams look like they just want to go home.
   145. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:34 PM (#4420610)
Btw, Rafael Montero threw 6 shutout innings, allowing only 4 hits. He struck out 6 and didn't walk anyone.

His stat line in AA:

22.2 ip, 1.59 ERA, 15 hits, 27/1 k/bb ratio, with 0.71 WHIP.

Those are some outstanding numbers. He might make it to the rotation before the end of the season if he keeps this stuff up.
   146. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:37 PM (#4420613)
Come on, David, give us something good.
   147. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:39 PM (#4420614)
Not impressive.

Your turn, Buck.

You can't stop John Buck. You can only hope to contain him.
   150. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:48 PM (#4420620)
Ugh. I blame myself for Davis today. I picked him up for my fantasy team last night and started him today, thinking he had broken out.

####### hung the pitch, too.

Harper is not impressed. :)

Harper again!

Harper is strong.

This Harper fellow is not untalented.
   158. madvillain Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:54 PM (#4420629)
This White Sox offense is putrid. Dunn is back to historical levels of suck, Viciedo is injured, and Keppinger has remembered that he's a utility player at best. 2 of the top 4 in the lineup today for Chicago "boasted" an OPS below 400. Chew on that for a minute.
   159. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:54 PM (#4420630)
I know I'm just annoyed because we're behind again, but I swear I've seen Harper and Werth hanging out in Williamsburg.
   160. AJMcCringleberry Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:55 PM (#4420631)
I hate it when I miss dog day at Mets games.

If I showed up and found it was dog day, I'd demand my money back.

McCarver does not like Harper's hair.

Ventura's going to run this bullpen into the ground. He's onto his fifth relief pitcher in 1.1 innings. Obnoxious.

They are interviewing a UFC fighter during the Mets/Nats game. Disgraceful.

Man, you guys would hate NESN broadcasts just as much as I do. The amount of booth guests and announcer shtick tomfoolery is unreal.
   166. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:58 PM (#4420639)
The announcers for the Angels game are actually making sense... talking about the post season 1. best team doesn't necessarily win the world series 2. post season is still good for baseball 3. as a fan you want a team to play meaningful games in September.
   167. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:59 PM (#4420640)

I rate the Mets' chances of giving back the lead at >90%.
   169. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 05:59 PM (#4420642)
I don't like our chances in the 9th, so I'd like to get a run here, please.
   170. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:01 PM (#4420643)
Ugh. That was an ugly swing by the previously-lauded-as-useful Marlon Byrd.
   171. cardsfanboy Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:02 PM (#4420644)
"He's not even one of the top fifty position players in the game."

I'm pretty sure you edited out the part where I had said "at this time." talking about June of 2012.

Harper, even with his last week explosion, finished 64th in ops+ last year.
   172. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:05 PM (#4420645)
At least one person is gonna have to hit the ball damned hard before someone else has to hit the ball again to get Duda home.
   173. Russlan is fond of Dillon Gee Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:06 PM (#4420646)
Why not pinch run for Duda?
   174. The Kentucky Gentleman, Mark Edward Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:07 PM (#4420647)
Adam Dunn is looking completely pathetic at the plate.
   175. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:07 PM (#4420648)
Crap.
   176. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:08 PM (#4420649)
Why not pinch run for Duda?

Do we even have anyone that much faster than Duda on the bench it makes sense to put in there?
   177. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:12 PM (#4420653)
Boy, it would have been cool to have Werth boot that one.

LaTroy Hawkins? Oh good lord.

Wright is the one this inning.
   186. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:28 PM (#4420675)
See, neither Turner OR Murphy should have swung at those 3-1s.
   187. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:28 PM (#4420677)
Come on, Buck. My fantasy team needs a HR and the Mets need a HR. Win/win.

That was a good game.
   193. Lassus Posted: April 20, 2013 at 06:30 PM (#4420684)
I love Buck, but swinging at the first pitch is just stupid the way Sori was pitching.

I've been thinking that since before the season and I drafted that way in fantasy...
