Go Dores!

Eugenio Suarez has a HR, a double, and just hit a triple. Not sure if he will get another at bat to go for the cycle. If anything he has definitely been impressive for the Tigers at SS.

Expect the unexpected in the CWS this year, I guess. Anteaters were perhaps the least well-regarded team coming into the CWS, yet take out the Longhorns in the opener. I wouldn't be shocked to see any one of these teams win the whole shooting match. Virginia probably has the best team and the Cavaliers are playing about as well as they've played all season, but they've got the tougher side of the bracket; Ole Miss and TCU aren't that far behind.

Wow. Did I just see that? Brandon Barnes, inside the park 2-run homer to give the Rockies a 5-4 lead in the top of the 9th!
   5. PASTE Thinks This Trout Kid Might Be OK (Zeth) Posted: June 14, 2014 at 07:15 PM (#4726189)
Holy crap, with 2 out and a guy on first in the top of the ninth, Angel Pagan horrendously misplayed a single into an inside-the-park home run. 5-4 Rockies.

The route Pagan took to the ball was so god-awful--ESPECIALLY in that situation--that I can't fathom why we bother tracking errors if that's not an E8. He would have hurt the team much less by dropping a can of corn.

I hate these 6:15 local time starts, the shadows suck right now.
   7. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 07:23 PM (#4726199)
The 9th inning in San Francisco getting crazy. Dropped infield fly, a collision between 3rd and SS puts the tying run on.

Heh. And they put Tim Lincecum in to pinch run.
   8. cardsfanboy Posted: June 14, 2014 at 07:24 PM (#4726200)
Already hating these announcers... He didn't find another gear, he was slowing down, got the sign, and sped up to the speed he was going before he slowed down.

horrible defense by Craig on that play.
   9. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 07:35 PM (#4726210)
When did Garrett Richards become a bad-ass?

I hate these 6:15 local time starts, the shadows suck right now.

Bow down to your Fox Sports overlords!!

I'm pleasantly surprised that I can watch the Nats-Cards game on my Roku here in South Florida. It reflexively put up the blackout message when I selected the game, then I hit OK and it's showing it to me anyway. They can't even program their blackouts properly.
   11. stanmvp48 Posted: June 14, 2014 at 07:47 PM (#4726215)
Romo strikes again. Not entirely his fault but still

   12. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 07:52 PM (#4726218)
When does Miller settle down? That's gotta be the 3rd pitch way up high.

It's looking like we're getting good Strasburg tonight. Which is nice.

Yep, he has a no hitter after 2 innings.
   14. cardsfanboy Posted: June 14, 2014 at 07:57 PM (#4726223)
useless dugout interview (as if there is any other types)....

missed the out as they carried on the conversation with Fister about learning how to bunt since he's now playing real baseball.
   15. cardsfanboy Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:01 PM (#4726226)
Shelby Miller with the double to break up the perfect game/no hitter.
   16. cardsfanboy Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:03 PM (#4726227)
Just looked it up. Nationals team era+ is 124 this year. That's positively Braves(Maddux era) like.
   17. PASTE Thinks This Trout Kid Might Be OK (Zeth) Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:05 PM (#4726228)
Billy Hamilton walks and immediately gets picked off by Yovani Gallardo.

Meanwhile, Mike Trout is too cool to slide while stealing second.
   18. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:13 PM (#4726230)
I knew the Nats' offensive eruption was unsustainable, and they certainly have cooled off the last few games. But I hope this great pitching continues; it really is great to watch, makes for speedy games, and generates a good buzz about the team which is fluff but nice after a fashion.
   19. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:27 PM (#4726233)
Meanwhile, I'm keeping my eye on Los Angeles Angeles de la ciudad de Anaheim cling to their 1-run lead in Hotlanta. Don't mess it up!

I don't know that it's completely unsustainable. Harper's coming back soon, right? Their division's still pretty weak, right? If there's one team whose season prospects look good, it's Washington.

Angels leaving some runs on the table today. Been happening a lot.

I was going to question the "weakness" of their division, then I realized, pretty much every division is weak this year.
   22. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:48 PM (#4726247)
My biggest gripe with the Nationals this year has been their early inconsistency. They seemed to put it all together in late May, so I'm hoping that translates into consistency the rest of the season as they gel into a team.

Bryce Harper is forecast to be back in a nebulous time frame approximating the All-Star Break, but Harper himself has said, effectively, "I'll be back when I'm good and ready". He has made it known last season that he doesn't like invasive surgical procedures or pretty much any drugs, so there's that history behind his recent statement; of course, he'll have to do what he's told if he knows what's good for him. It was a thumb injury so I hope it doesn't affect his swing or his power, as the Nats need his bat in the lineup. His defense is good to very good, but not elite.

I also hope Mike Rizzo for once doesn't sit on his hands if there's a really good bench bat or two available as we approach the non-waiver trade deadline. He has shown a pattern of eschewing trades mid-season, but while Espinosa is a great defender, his bat is a hole in the lineup. Greg Dobbs needs to go away and Hairston is a coin flip at best. The Nats really need a bat to come off the bench in late innings or to play as starters when the inevitable injuries happen.`

Mat Latos looks like a gigantic #########. Anyone know if he is in fact a gigantic #########, or if he's just playing up the look for the lulz?
   24. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:50 PM (#4726252)
My friend (whose name I won't use, but he runs 619 Sports in San Diego) says that Latos is basically a giant ass.

Granting that Freeman is struggling, it's at-bats like that which are going to keep him in the sub-elite category, even with all of his good work. Runners on first and second, Freeman's up 3-1, then swings at ball four , fouls off a couple other pitches, then swings and misses at a breaking ball well outside. Got up in the count, then did everything he could to give away the at-bat and help out Richards. You have to be willing to walk there.
   26. PASTE Thinks This Trout Kid Might Be OK (Zeth) Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:54 PM (#4726255)
####### but Mike Trout makes it look easy. You watch the guy casually blast a major league pitch six rows up and can't help but think \"####, if I finally get in shape I could do that, how hard could it be?"

Edit: Back-to-back circuit clouts by Trout and Pujols.
   27. cardsfanboy Posted: June 14, 2014 at 08:55 PM (#4726256)
Ellis impression of Ryan Theriot(getting thrown out on the bases on a stupid play) has cost us a great chance at getting the lead.

He's been listening to the Reds media and thinks that he doesn't want to be Votto.

I'm a happy guy right now.
   30. PASTE Thinks This Trout Kid Might Be OK (Zeth) Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:05 PM (#4726261)
Since I'm unable to watch any game involving the Orioles, Nationals, Pirates or Phillies, I have to adopt few teams to follow this year for MLBTV purposes. So far I'm gravitating toward the Angels, Astros, Royals and Cubs. Also the Giants when they're available, because their broadcast team is very good.
   31. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:08 PM (#4726263)
Over a hundred pitches in six innings for Richards, so he's probably done for the night. 10 Ks, 3 walks, and 4 hits, and not one ball that I would say got really scorched by a Braves bat. Since it's the Angel bullpen, a few runs here would be really useful.
   32. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:17 PM (#4726265)
Well, if you still needed proof that the Nats' hot streak is over, Denard Span comes up with bases loaded, 2 outs, and grounds the very first pitch right to the waiting second baseman who gets the easy force-out at 2B. Thanks for your patience at the plate!
   33. cardsfanboy Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:19 PM (#4726271)
Good to have Matt Adams back.
   34. TerpNats Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:20 PM (#4726273)
And Adams homers in the bottom half. The Nats are Charlie Brown, the Cardinals Lucy.
   35. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:21 PM (#4726275)
Trout's going to have the bases loaded. Some insurance would be nice....
   36. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:21 PM (#4726278)
And Luis Avilan just walked Kole Calhoun to load the bases for Mike Trout. Because Trout's the guy you want to face in this situation.
   37. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:27 PM (#4726286)
Matt Williams is a f@cking disaster as a manager. That is all.
   38. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:29 PM (#4726291)
11 pitch AB for Trout, draws the walk, forces in a run. Let's see if Pujols can push that BA RISP over .200.

EDIT: Nope.
   39. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:29 PM (#4726292)
Trout does what Freeman refuses to do and draws a walk.
   40. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:36 PM (#4726298)
Jim Palmer never gave up a grand slam. Officer thinking!
   41. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:46 PM (#4726312)
BJ Upton not having a great series out there.
   42. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:48 PM (#4726316)
But when you hit like BJ, defense is just a bonus.
   43. Jim (jimmuscomp) Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:52 PM (#4726320)
I'm beginning to think that David Freese's last name is, "grounds out softly to...."

What a POS.
   44. cardsfanboy Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:55 PM (#4726323)
Rosenthal can't hit the broadside of a barn right now.
   45. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 09:55 PM (#4726324)
Angel bullpen, getting dinged again.
   46. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:16 PM (#4726338)
Matt Williams, in a fit of generosity befitting the Christmas season, gives away outs and opposing base runners. Nats lose 4-1 on a botched baserunning play.
   47. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:21 PM (#4726347)
Frieri puts the first two men on. I've seen this movie before. Angels need to get someone loose right now, 4-run lead be damned.
   48. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:25 PM (#4726355)
I liked Frieri better on Diners, Dives, Dumps, and Drive-Throughs.
   49. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:25 PM (#4726356)
Frieri allows three straight hits to lead off the bottom of the 9th, now it's 5-2 with two on and the heart of the order coming up. Goddamned bullpen.
   50. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:29 PM (#4726360)
Four straight hits. 5-1 goes to 5-4, with the tying run on 3rd base. YET ANOTHER BLOWN GAME FOR THE BULLPEN.

Angels radio saying that extra innings were the best-case scenario when it was still 5-4 Angels! I guess their learned frustration was informing them early?
   53. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:32 PM (#4726365)
FIVE STRAIGHT HITS. WINNING RUN ON 2B. NOBODY OUT.

Awful.

   56. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:34 PM (#4726370)
Don't have high hopes for a slumping Justin Upton, but El Oso Blanco will bat.
   57. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:39 PM (#4726374)
Well, I called Justin's AB.

Gattis to be walked for Lord GIDP.
   58. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:41 PM (#4726375)
GIDP. Here comes Kimbrel.

I feel gutted.
   59. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:47 PM (#4726376)
I feel a little better.
   60. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:47 PM (#4726377)
Inconceivablish!
   61. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:49 PM (#4726378)
God, there's nothing I hate more than the come-back-from-a-big-deficit-then-lose-anyway game.
   62. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:53 PM (#4726382)
You know what's worse? The lose-a-big-lead-then-get-the-lead-back-then-lose-anyway game. That's much worse.

I really need the Angels to pull this one out. Sam H is taunting me on FB. I need a weapon.
   63. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:54 PM (#4726384)
As good as Kimbrel's been, his command has fallen this year. The only way 2014 Albert Pujols yanks a Kimbrel fastball into the LCF gap is if he doesn't have anything else to worry about. You fall behind 3-1, you give Albert a chance.
   64. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:56 PM (#4726387)
Lead-off man is on. ANGEL BULLPEN, Y U DO DIS 2 ME
   65. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:57 PM (#4726389)
LaStella has about 87 singles between short and second.
   66. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:57 PM (#4726390)
And then he balks the guy to 2nd base. Bye-bye, lead, bye-bye.
   67. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 10:59 PM (#4726391)
Bedrosian shoulda just forgotten about the ball on the ground, gone through his motion and faked a pitch anyway. Can't call that a balk until you move while in contact with the rubber.
   68. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:05 PM (#4726393)
Luckin fovely!
   69. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:05 PM (#4726394)
Nothing left of the bat, but tie game.
   70. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:07 PM (#4726396)
Walking Freeman to get to J. Upton, 0-5 today. Seems like the right play.
   71. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:08 PM (#4726397)
Lefty/righty match-up as well.
   72. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:08 PM (#4726398)
Of course, it means Bedrosian needs to not walk Upton....
   73. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:11 PM (#4726399)
Oh, good lord. Kole Calhoun.
   74. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:11 PM (#4726400)
Unbelievable.
   75. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:13 PM (#4726401)
I do think on 3-1 you need to be taking unless the pitch is the meatiest of balls. Upton was robbed, but it was a jam shot.
   76. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:15 PM (#4726402)
Nothing eases extra inning stress like, "John McDonald up with the bases empty."
   77. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:17 PM (#4726403)
So, naturally, Hale WALKS JOHN MCDONALD.
   78. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:18 PM (#4726404)
And Trout gets to hit.
   79. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:21 PM (#4726405)
Meh. I've already chalked this up as a loss for the Angels. Having to count on the bullpen for a win isn't a bet I'd take for any amount of money. 25th out of 30 in bullpen ERA, and the majority of the Angel losses are because of their bullpen. If they even had a league average pen, they'd be one of the best teams in baseball. Instead, they're a fringe contender because they lose games just like this one.
   80. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:25 PM (#4726410)
I think CJ is bunting just to avoid the DP.
   81. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:26 PM (#4726411)
Eric Karros just said that Simmons "strikes out a lot."
   82. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:29 PM (#4726412)
Man, #### the Angels' defense.
   83. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:31 PM (#4726415)
Hey, the Angels have been more than generous tonight.
   84. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:34 PM (#4726417)
The Braves are out of position players, I think.
   85. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:44 PM (#4726420)
To the 13th!
   86. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:45 PM (#4726423)
C.J. Wilson to pinch hit for the Angels. With our luck, he's gonna break a finger or something.
   87. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:49 PM (#4726426)
C.J. WILSON draws a WALK!
   88. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:50 PM (#4726427)
And Hale manages to walk a bunting CJ Wilson after getting up 0-2.
   89. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:51 PM (#4726429)
This game is officially WACK!!
   90. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:51 PM (#4726430)
Infield single, pitcher walked trying to sacrifice, and a HBP. John McDonald up, so... grand slam?
   91. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:54 PM (#4726434)
With that McDonald pop-out, I'm suddenly envisioning no runs scored, leading to the final implosion.
   92. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:55 PM (#4726436)
Kole Calhoun!
   93. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:55 PM (#4726437)
I did enjoy the three run double by Danny Haren.
   94. boteman is not here 'til October Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:57 PM (#4726438)
HOW WILL THE ANGELS BULLPEN BLOW *THIS* LEAD???

edit: Dan Haren in a Nats jersey would have pulled a body and gone on the million-day DL.
   95. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:58 PM (#4726439)
The sad thing is that we actually have to seriously ask that question.
   96. CFBF Is A Golden Spider Duck Posted: June 14, 2014 at 11:59 PM (#4726440)
David, this will happen when you walk CJ Wilson and hit Chris Iannetta when both are trying to give you an out.

Hale lost it really quickly. Walking a pitcher who never hits is just inconceivable.

Frustrating game. Feel the Braves should have won it. Still ticked at good Upton for swinging 3-1 and Chris Johnson for playing baseball instead of some other sport.

Braves fans will blame Fredi, of course, since all losses are due to Fredi.

Big, big games for Trout and Pujols. Big games that should have been totally unnecessary.

Derek Jeter ran that week ground ball out The Right Way.
