A-Rod, Boras split

Alex Rodriguez is no longer represented by Scott Boras, the power agent who negotiated for him the two highest-paid contracts in baseball history, USA Today reports.

The Yankee slugger now is working with Pittsburgh sports attorney Jay Reisinger and Washington lawyer Jim Sharp, who have been handling his legal and government affairs since February 2009. The USA Today report says Reisinger confirmed the relationship.

The other woman? Yes, Jon Heyman.

Does Boras still get the commission on the contract? Assuming he does this seems like a move designed to look ahead to life after baseball and make sure that his advisors are designed with a focus on the issues that would come up in that setting rather than negotiating active player contracts which Boras is obviously good at.

A-Rod, coming to Pittsburgh! They laughed when I said it would happen, but who's laughing now, huh?

Might as well, all A-Rod's paydays are now behind him.

This is just a rouse by Boras. Pure genius.

What exactly does A-Rod need an agent for at this point?

Pretty sure he does.

Yes. Boras and ARod basically have no use for each other anymore.

Of course he does.

"government affairs"???

Is he negotiating a personal trade deal with Mexico? Or is that a euphemism for plea bargains.

I think "legal and government affairs" is a euphemism for "tax attorney," as well as the obvious legal matters.
   15. ursus arctos Posted: September 02, 2010 at 09:36 PM (#3632423)
Actually, it's a more common euphemism for "lobbyist".
   16. jwb Posted: September 02, 2010 at 09:43 PM (#3632426)
True, ua, but what would Rodriguez be lobbying for? An extension of the Bush high income tax cuts would certainly save him some money. Perhaps he has some tax shelters which are coming under scrutiny.

Reisinger represented Sosa and Petite in their Congressional testimony, and a number of other players in connection with the Mitchell Report. Perhaps A-Rod has concerns about being called in Round Three (should that ever happen).

His bio is actually quite interesting.

Maybe he's going to run for office.

Bummer. I'd like to know what your cat thinks about Scott Boras. Not really kidding.

Jim Sharp is an interesting guy, too.
   24. ursus arctos Posted: September 03, 2010 at 02:09 AM (#3632628)
Indeed he is.
   25. ValueArbitrageur Posted: September 03, 2010 at 04:27 AM (#3632677)
I thought A-Rod negotiated his 2nd deal, not Boras.
   26. Tripon Posted: September 03, 2010 at 04:46 AM (#3632687)
The story goes that A-Rod hired a guy from Goldman Sachs to negotiate with the Yankees, but then had Boras come in to finalize the details.
   27. Lassus Posted: September 03, 2010 at 05:12 AM (#3632692)
I have never been able to get away from always initially thinking of Goldman Sachs as a department store. "He hired WHO now?"
   28. Rich Posted: September 03, 2010 at 05:34 AM (#3632696)
When you are negotiating a deal with Hank Steinbrenner on the opposing side, do you really need an agent?
