A-Rod will make more than Astros

The title explains itself. Also of note:

Rodriguez’s Yankees are on track to have the highest payroll on Opening Day for the 15th straight year, climbing above the Los Angeles Dodgers to a projected $228 million with this week’s acquisition of Vernon Wells.

So now we know why the Yankees wanted Vernon Wells. :p

On a per-win above replacement level, this might actually make sense.

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. A-Rod is better than the Astros.

A-Rod's $29 million salary tops the major leagues for the 13th consecutive season, according to a study of major league contracts by The Associated Press.

I don't think you need a cite for that. I really don't think you need to cite a "study".

The San Francisco Giants are MLB's westernmost franchise, according to anonymous sources.

"We're pretty sure they're in California," added someone close to the organization who did not wish to be identified. (Major League Baseball does not comment on the locations of its franchises.)

NEW YORK - MLB announces the firing of Walter Andrus. Mr. Andrus is the "person close to the organization" who in fact confirmed that the Giants were in California, a serious breach of MLB security. Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig moved swiftly to assure his member clubs that their security and privacy is of paramount importance to Major League Baseball. "We profoundly apologize to all of our teams (however many there are, and I'm not confirming there are more than one). Obviously it is critical that we maintain security and wish to assure the Yankees and the Phillies that we would never disclose the city, state or (wink wink) province they may or may not play in. Frankly, we are not prepared to confirm that there is a Major League Baseball or even such thing as baseball. Isn't there a football game on somewhere?"

According to multiple historians, the Cubs haven't won a world series in a long time.

But only by three minutes of longitude.

I sometimes wonder about the necessity of cites. I recall a few times where very basic statistics in articles have been cited as "According to the Elias Sports Bureau" or something along those lines.

Don't let the owners hear that. We know that they have historically had difficulty telling the difference between East and West. Remember, these are the geniuses that for years thought Cincinnati and Atlanta were in the West and Chicago and St. Louis were in the East.

According to multiple historians, the Cubs haven't won a world series in a long time.

Activists from the Cub Futility And Vaccine Usefulness Denial Association objected to the report. "Just because there are no championship trophies or photographs of a Cubs World Series doesn't mean one hasn't happened," said Jenny "Woo Woo" McCarthy, the Association's Communications Director.

[3] To be fair, its not completely trivial to figure out who is paying how much for who all the time. A team's player payroll is close to, but not exactly, the sum of the players salaries.
