A summary of the 2019 SB Nation off-season simulation

Sorry to post my own stuff, but I know there has been interest in this in the past. I prematurely cut off Gerrit Cole negotiations, so that’s why he didn’t get as much as Strasburg. Obviously, a lot of these FA deals are silly pants, but it is still an interesting exercise I think.

Looking at the summary of free agent contracts, I suspect alcohol was involved.

Well, I sure do hate what the Pirates did. He traded away a big chunk of the farm system to build a ML roster that might, if it gets lucky, be a solid contender for 4th place in the Central.

The trades might be even more drunk.

The Nationals are going to give Kevin Gausman 3 years, 24 million to be a middle reliever? That seems...unlikely.

That looks exactly like what San Diego will do.

For the Mets, I like how the Brach trade seems like retaliation for him picking up his side of the option after the team declined theirs.

Also, one note, the Mets-Cleveland blockbuster trade is missing from the Mets tab (though it is on Cleveland's; I assume trades are supposed to be listed on both), so seeing Lindor there was quite the surprise. (Not a bad surprise, mind you.)

Thanks, I fixed that. Let me know if there are any other errors or weirdness.

The real Jays did better with Spanberger.

The 26 man roster comes into play next year, so every team is one guy short it looks.

I'm also impressed that the Pirates manager managed to trade for one of the only 3B in MLB who wouldn't be an upgrade on Colin Moran.

I like the Phillies signing Strasburg after Harper last year.

Also, hard to see them non-tendering Cesar Hernandez, actually getting two players for Nick Williams, and trading for James Taillon without putting him the rotation!

I guess after spending all that crazy money, the fake GMs realized they had no more ammo left and still plenty of players to sign. Odorizzi getting a 3 year deal for a total right and the QO? Either he should have taken the Q, or I would guess if his market is that bad he holds out till mid season like Kimbrel and Keuchel did.

WTF did the Yankees trade Andujar and Happ for a mediocre A-ball pitcher?

Also, Gardner back to the Yanks is the biggest slam dunk in the FA market.

Much as I'd love the Rays to drop $22M AAV on a player, it's, ummm, highly unlikely, and even less so for Marcell Ozuna. But bravo to your Rays owner!

The Red Sox traded Eovaldi AND a lottery ticket for Danny Salazar? Salazar has thrown a total of 20 professional innings since the end of the 2017 season. He made it back to the big leagues this year and immediately injured himself in his first game.

I know Eovaldi's contract is pretty substantial, but goodness.

Some have commented that alcohol was involved, but some of these teams moves seem like they involved harder drugs, like cocaine, meth, or Philadelphia sports talk radio.

I'm wondering where you found the fans.

the astros signing a 1B/DH when they have alvarez and yuli gurriel for years? cmon

The $ for players coming from Japan seems exceptionally high.

Looks like no one signed Addison Russell? (Which I get, I'm just surprised)

The Jays had 27 million worth of budget left and are running out a virtual rotation of Shoemaker/Peacock/Ross/Thornton/Graveman. I have no idea what they were doing.

Also, Gardner back to the Yanks is the biggest slam dunk in the FA market.

Yeah, other teams might not let him bash the dugout roof with his bat, like a giant manchild.

Yeah, other teams might not let him bash the dugout roof with his bat, like a giant manchild.

Oh, that was embarrassing, and he should have been immediately ejected. But, he wants to stay in NY, and they desperately need him, so a deal is inevitable.
