I think the schedule has helped. They got swept by Houston. Every other team they've played does not look like one that's going to be competitive this year.

The Red Sox aren't going to be competitive this year?

Have you seen them?

Good thing the Yankees have 27 World Series flags lying around; that ought to be enough to dry all their tears.

"Have you seen them?"

Yeah, but it's also April and they just swept the first place Rays. They're going to be just fine.

Obviously, I'm a Red Sox fan taking a little shot at my team's awful start. But the Yanks' April schedule has really been quite weak, and I'm not certain the Sox will be there all year long, the encouraging Rays sweep notwithstanding.

the points about schedule are correct, but TBF if you're going to spend a month with 65% of your payroll on the IL, better to spend it playing crap teams instead of contenders that inflate their record by kicking your crippled ass.

Absolutely. The Yankees got horribly unlucky with this freakish spate of injuries, and really lucky it happened while they were playing mostly dregs.

Does it really matter? Say you're expected to go .500 against the good teams, but your hobbled team goes .400 instead. Is that different than expecting to go .650 against the bad teams, and going .550 instead?

Sure it does. You're ultimately not competing with the bad teams for anything. A loss to the Rays is also a win by the Rays.

crippled ass.
shouldn't it be, "injured ass."

It's a shame, I don't like the Yankees but I do like Judge. When he's coming up, I turn the channel to watch him, with the same anticipation I used to have watching Strawberry from 83-89.

Now, I don't find anything that compelling to want to watch them.

Oh, right. Good point.

The Yankees are going to be without Judge until at least June. They'll get Sanchez back this week, Stanton soon and maybe Hicks is not too far down the road. Andujar, who knows, and Didi not until after the All Star Break.

Cashman hould trade for a functional first baseman (Smoak?), sign Dallas Keuchel and move Domingo German to the bullpen and let him throw fire and take over the role that Chad Green once filled.

None of this will happen, but it should.

Cashman should trade for a functional first baseman (Smoak?). . .

Luke Voit’s career OPS is more than a 130 points higher than Smoak’s. Overpaying for Smoak’s hot start would be a panic move to shore up a position where the Yankees still have (KNOCK ON WOOD!) a healthy starter. Maybe the Yanks luck into a deal that helps, but I think they’ll have to rely on what they have to keep them close enough to make up any needed ground in the second half when most of the wounded warriors will return. If Clint Frazier is now the real deal, it might work.

That's a real limited sample size on Voit though, and he's really more suited to be a DH. Smoak was great in 2017, good last year and while he's not as good as his hot start this year, he's still an actual first baseman. Listen, if Andujar miraculously comes back along with Sanchez and Stanton, great. But they are going to need an extra bat if any of those injuries linger. Smoak is not great, but he does lengthen the lineup with a power bat, plus his contract isn't bad and it shouldn't cost that much to get him.

It's Hal that's not doing things (or allowing money to be spent), not Cashman.

They should get Smoak and Keuchel tomorrow, and indeed then German becomes an awesome reliever as he should be.

Wasn't someone in this thread just making fun of the Mets' medical staff? Some amputations might be in order for the Yankees, maybe for the training staff and physical therapy people.
   20. Blastin Posted: April 22, 2019 at 02:12 PM (#5834175)
It's fun considering the yankees and Mets have the same record and the Yankees have, like, a third of a team. The "Mets have a way better record than the Yankees" part of the year ended earlier than last year.

Anyway, I have no idea what's going on with the injuries. It seems random to me.

Praise be to Clint.

No more of reverse jinx attempts. It took Frazier 2 years to overcome The Curse of Jose, but he now has lifetime immunity.

I'm a Met fan and I like Aaron Judge. I am sad to see him get injured. Wish him a speedy recovery.

There are a lot of really bad teams in the American League. The Mets schedule has been pretty crazy so far this year. I'll take 11-10 with that schedule any day.
   23. Dandy Little Glove Man Posted: April 22, 2019 at 03:31 PM (#5834225)
The Yankees still have Syndrome and the Sock Man. They'll be fine.

Minor League deal. Scranton needs players, too.
