Aaron Judge has fractured right wrist, can’t swing bat for 3 weeks

NEW YORK—New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge suffered a chip fracture in his right wrist after being hit by a pitch in the first inning of Thursday night’s 7-2 win over the Kansas City Royals and is expected to miss three weeks, the Yankees announced.

The Yankees said Judge isn’t expected to need surgery, but it will be about three weeks before he can swing a bat in a game. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday and the team recalled infielder Tyler Wade from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

I'll top that offer on behalf of the Giants- we'll hand over Kelby Tomlinson, Hunter Pence, and Austin Jackson in exchange for Judge.

Chip Fracture had a cup of coffee in LF for the Yankees in 1965.

The Orioles will offer Chris Davis... and the Yankees don't even have to give us anything back. Just out of the goodness of our hearts.

The only thing that gives me hope is that I once broke my wrist while high jumping and was playing baseball in----three weeks. Even before the cast was removed.

If it's just a fracture and not a break, three weeks is probably a reasonable time frame.

Historical note: When the Black Sox were kicked out of baseball in the final week of a tight pennant race, the Yankees offered the White Sox use of their entire team, a typical example of Yankees sportsmanship. You'd think that with that precedent in mind, the Red Sox would offer their right fielder to the Yanks at least until Judge's cast is removed.

Poor timing. Four games against Boston starting next Thursday.

next Thursday.

that phrase could be good for an entire thread!

what role is "next" playing there?
#pedant

The Yanks will be playing the Red Sox next Thursday. They'll also be playing the Rangers a week from Thursday, and playing the Rays the Thursday after that, all before Judge returns. Pedantry appeal denied.

Nick Markakis gives a thumbs-up to the Yanks chances of winning the division.

#8 ... the acquisition of superstar JA Happ should be more than enough to compensate for the loss of Judge. No sympathies.

Jason Heyward is available.

Speaking of which, any news on Jacoby "Carl Crawford 2.0" Ellsbury's health?

Is he still available to pitch?

Speaking of which, any news on Jacoby "Carl Crawford 2.0" Ellsbury's health?

60-Day DL with plantar fasciitis, a hip injury & now back problems keeping him from baseball activities. Not likely to see him before the rosters expand, if then, as it would be difficult to justify a spot on the 25-man. He too might be "available".
